Does the fasting, then chicken/rice diet work for stopping vomitting like it does diarreah?

Don't need the "take him to the vet" posts.... a yes or no will do.

We know (99% sure anyway) what he got into, its already in his system, too late to pump stomachs or anything along those lines. He is acting normal in every other way, no blood in vomit, no problems at the other end, etc. If it persists we'll obviously take him in, not stupid...

In answer to your question. Not always.

As Spooks says:  bland chicken n rice only works sometimes with
vomitting.  I prefer to starve for 12 or 24 hours.

Yes Dawulf, best thing is just with hold food and water for awhile, if nothing goes in,nothing comes out, than, depending on what he ate,go with the chicken and rice ...
A little Pepto won't hurt either, (I prefer tablets on adult dog, the taste alone makes the dogs want to vomit).
If he just ate something, and you know what, just let it run it's course

Fasting is the only way to stop vomiting. 24 hours from last upchuck before any food.

And what the hell are you doing on an internet forum when your dog is puking??? Get him to the vet NOW, you irresponsible dolt!!!!!!!!!Teeth Smile

OK, thanks! We'll see if it works. :)

14 years old, and we've had him for 8... you think he'd know better, LOL. The story is, apparently Thurs morning (that's afternoon for us night owls), my Grandma got up to find all of her junk that she keeps around her chair in the living room strewn across the floor. Well lately she's had to be on a liquid diet, so she sits out there (she just CANNOT do it in her room, you know, like she used too) and crushes all of her many pills. The crusher she has SUCKS and sends little pieces flying everywhere. She picks them up if she can find them (so she says). Anyway, we believe Yapper got ahold of one of the pieces (or whole pills, who knows) and gobbled it up like the oinker he is. Friday night/morning he threw up all over dads bed,  and then Friday evening he did it again. We couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, and that is when she told us about her things being "rooted out". That would've been nice to know earlier so we could've done something, before letting it get into his system and see what happens.

I have no doubt that he will be fine, because like I said he's acting completely normal in every other way, it's just a matter of getting his gut to settle down now, I think. For 14 years old, he is very lively and pup-ish yet... just not that smart. :P

Kitkat... the taste of Pepto makes ME want to vomit.

What kind of pills?

I thought you meant vomiting right away; I'd be concerned that he's still vomiting and it's not a constant, immediate (or within a couple hours) thing. I'd worry about kidneys, liver, etc.

Yes, WHAT KIND OF PILLS? Not all pills have the same effect on dogs as on humans. Very small doses of certain medicaitons can kill. E.g., xylitol, an artificial sweetener can be deadly to dogs in small amounts.

Also, what constitutes a normal dose for a human could be an overdose for a dog, even if the medication is one used for both dogs and humans, due to the difference in body size and chemistry.

I'd contact my vet right away, and give him a list of the pills he might have ingested. This could be very, very serious!  Sad Smile

Gma takes everything from fish oil pills to oxy's for pain. So I have no idea. I'm not even sure Gma could list 'em all out in one shot if you asked her.

So far so good, as far as I know. I didn't get up in time to tell dad not to feed him this morning (though he will have fasted about 15 hrs anyways), but that was 4-5 hrs ago, and still no puke.
