Dawulf

Sorry, my turn to rant.

My dad and I are running down to Kansas City this weekend to pick up some dogs and bring them back to their fosters (and one is already adopted, I believe) for a rescue here in town. Somehow we are going to fit 5 dogs in the back of my SUV. :) Anyway, I was chatting with the rescue gal and she was telling me about the dogs and their stories.

This poor pitbull that is coming, Scarlet, is 1 1/2 years old. She was dumped at a shelter where they thought she was in labor. When they checked her out, they found that she had *just* had her puppies, prior to being dropped off. The pups were no where to be found. To top it off, another rescue had stepped up for her, but once they found out that she had already HAD her babies, and would not be supplying them with any more, they dropped off the face of the Earth. Not only that, but during her spay, they found various C-section scars, so she had likely been used as a breeder, and my guess is when she proved to be too much work for that venue, the dumbasses ditched her. GOOD that they dumped her I suppose, she will be on to much better things now, but still... grr!

OK. Rant over. Thumbs Up

If she has 'some' Ceasar scars, hopefully she is a bit older than the
18 months you've been told.  Here's to her getting a much better owner
& home, for the rest of her life !   Good on ya, Dawulf, for helping out
with these rescues.  Agree with you - some people are really "Urgh!!!".

Poor Scarlet.Sad Smile That sounds weird...all of it. Pits don't typically need c-sections, especially young ones, let alone multiple, by that young age, plus the people who owned her don't sound like the types to provide c-sections. I hope that's the typical "lost in translation" or "telephone game" stuff that happens when dogs change hands and not the God's honest truth. Terrible story. I've gotten some animals with very odd stories from shelters/rescues, then when you get to the bottom of it, the story makes a lot more sense. Whenever lots of people are involved, stories can get twisted very easily. Also, often the vets utilized by the rescues are sometimes not the most experienced and can and do make mistakes- like the cat I adopted that was said to be a stray for all of her 1.5 years. Needed to go to the vet later and the vet laughed when I said she was about 2. She was more like 7. Honest mistake by a shelter volunteer, and not caught by a young, inexperienced low-cost clinic vet. So, Scarlet may be older, or there may be some mistake. Good for you and your dad to help with transport! Thumbs Up

You can fit 5 dogs in your SUV- it just takes creativity. Wink Smile  You should've seen me cruising down to OK w/8 in my Jeep Gr. Cher....though mine all know each other and I only needed one crate. The drive-thru people took pictures at one stop. LOL

OMG- what idiots!! I agree with Hundmutter, if she's really that young, she shouldn't have Csection scars like that. God knows what happened to her poor babies, but thank God to Dawulf that now she'll a loving home! I know, I have a coming 10 yr old pit female rescue myself, and she's been the absolutely sweetest dog ever! And don't worry, I also have an SUV, and easily can fit 6 crates comfortably in it.

When i worked for the vet we had a pit come on with a prolapsed uterus.  Dog was 8 months old. From delivering 14 puppies. Fixed her up (Put uterus back in dog and prevented it from falling back out) and sent her home with instructions to come back when the pups were weaned to have her spayed. Come back in like 8 months later for the spay bursting with almost due puppies. Only abortion c-section i've ever witnessed. Very sad, the Vet was furious because he hated to do that to the puppies but once again who needs 12 or 14 pit mix puppies to find homes for? The Clinic was in a uproar for days afterwards. The techs actually refused to assist for the spay, so the groomer was on hand if needed. (Me, the groomer)
I hope your little pitty didn't suffer the same fate.

I also hope that the poor girl is a bit older. They should not have to make multiple scars in the uterus for a C-section on a dog should they? I do not know how that works. Apparently her last birth was live, as they did not get her with a slice in her belly. Who knows. I am told she is SUPER sweet, and would make an excellent Therapy Dog. It amazes me how a dog can be dealt such a bad hand, but still can be so forgiving of people. I've only seen one, blurry pic, but she has just the sweetest, kindest expression on her. I look forward to meeting her, and I do believe I will have to bring my camera along. :)

Dragonfry, that would be a horrible experience. :(

It sounds like now we may be trying to fit 8 more into the car.... a litter of boxer/basset puppies! Yay, I get my puppy fix! :)

Not one of these dogs has a particularly "good" story. Scarlet's is the worst, in my opinion. The Maltese and French Bulldog were both dumped by breeders, after thier productive years. The Tree Walking Coonhound pup was found stray after likely being ditched in the country (finder did not want to take him to the kill pound). Then thier is a deaf white boxer who had lived in an outdoor kennel all his life because his owner said "that kind of dog doesn't belong inside"... they moved and left him behind. That dog has the best smile, from the pic I've seen!

I'm really looking forward to it. Would LOVE to get involved more with this rescue. My little sister is very jealous of me, so maybe I can get her helping out somehow too. She takes after "sissy" in her love for animals. :)

Why the hell do some people get a dog in the first place ?
If they are going to leave it outside all the time, do nothing
with it (I assume, in the case of the Boxer;  can't really see
owners like that putting in the extra, to actually train and
communicate with a deaf dog), and then move and leave it
behind them like its trash ?  They surely couldn't have be-
lieved it would make much of a Watchdog ?

I was wondering the same thing, Hundmutter. :\ How could someone do that to this face?!

What a wonderful thing you do Dawulf,, ..
and how could you not love that face...
Some people just reslly suck, I just seen one that not only was the dog dumped, it was dumped inside of a crate!
I "really would" hurt them people if I knew who they were and where to find them, really.
