"Papers please comrade..."

"A people may prefer a free government, but if, from indolence, or carelessness, or cowardice, or want of public spirit, they are unequal to the exertions necessary for preserving it; if they will not fight for it when it is directly attacked; if they can be deluded by the artifices used to cheat them out of it; if by momentary discouragement, or temporary panic, or a fit of enthusiasm for an individual, they can be induced to lay their liberties at the feet even of a great man, or trust him with powers which enable him to subvert their institutions; in all these cases they are more or less unfit for liberty: and though it may be for their good to have had it even for a short time, they are unlikely long to enjoy it." -- John Stuart Mill, Representative Government, 1861

When I was on the road, I was stopped before crossing the Hoover Dam.  I had a luggage carrier on top of my car, my dog inside and my SUV was packed for a six month road trip.  My gun was on the center console, in a nylon case, in plain sight.  It was the TSA who stopped me and I didn't refuse because I hear horror stories about being arrested, dogs being shot, etc.  I asked if I could get my dog safely away from the car first and stood there and watched as they rifled through my luggage, glove box, etc.  My car was packed full so it took a while.  I never even thought about the gun, sitting there in plain sight.... that they never found.

Giving up his permit won't change a thing, he'll still be in the system.
It is a brave new world is it not.

I have on more than one occasion set in a patrol car with my concealed .45 telling the officer they don't pay him enough..........:)
Since when is carrying a legal weapon a crime.

We let this shit happen, you know that don't you.

Guilty until proven innocent.  But that's just the tip of the iceberg.  Habeas Corpus is now a thing of the past. That's a scary thought.

Like the cop shooting at a van full of kids....
I dunno,
don't really wanna bash cops, it's the system that's FUBAR.

Scary?
fear is what got us into this in the first place.

You don't know the half of it. I have been through some major shit with bad cops and a crooked system. Guilty until proven innocent for sure.

I think we give uneducated cops way to much power and they continue to abuse that power constantly and in all situations. I am embarrassed for our police officers, justice system and government.

I've had some good friends who were, IMO, not only good cops but good people.  I've also experienced the not so "finest" we have to offer.  It's not a job I could do; too much "grey" for me.

I had my van searched once simply because it was a van and we were all young in a park just hangin out.

Oh!,
that was over forty years ago by the way.

Figure of speech.  I never thought I'd see the day when any US citizen could essentially be arbitrarily picked up and carried off without any formal charges or promise of a trial.

Lol. Yes, I have quite a few stories of my own.
