What happened to the "Like and Dislike" option?

It should be gone, unless the one who hits it shows up. If you want to dislike what someone posts, you should be willing to own it...
Some of the dislikes were were "ridicules".

I thought I was going crazy!! They were there, then the next post I clicked on...poof...gone!!
I liked them! Doesn't matter to me if a name is attached to it or not.

To many people were clicking on them and disliking good posts. Unfortunately a few members ruined it for the rest of us. When admins are called derogatory names for supposed dislikes (they didn't even make) well it was enough to say goodbye to them. I have talked to Oli about attaching a name to them like Facebook does in hopes it will keep people from disliking good posts just because a member doesn't like another member. BUT, I am not certain this would work either and again it would be a few ruining it for the many.

Sorry to those who didn't abuse them. I really pushed for the likes/dislikes and sold them to Oli even though other admins told me they would not work here.

I was seriously going crazy thinking I was the only one.

Problem was there are children who will sit there and dislike everything a certain member says just because they don't like them, and it wasn't about the content of the post whatsoever, as it should be. If I clicked a like or dislike, it was on the post, not the member. Although, I admit, I assumed they were linked to usernames, so I was clicking like on posts I wanted to be able to refer back to; I''ve even liked a few of my own posts w/info that I wanted to save (links, info I could send to someone w/out retyping, etc.) or threads to refer back to, stupidly thinking I could go look it up somehow, like you can on other sites once you've "liked" or "disliked" something. I thought there was a record. LOL. Admins probably thought I'm quite the ego-maniac, liking a few of my own posts! Teeth Smile

Honestly, I think getting rid of them was a good idea, for the reasons Admin stated. They were fun and all when used properly but... Thank the 'dislike fairy' for that one.

Honestly Jen we could not see who was liking or disliking what. I think Oli thought he gave us a listing but I never saw it.

I do think the dislike fairies would not be so brave to dislike a post for no reason if their name was attached to that dislike/like. I need to get on my sales cap and sell it to Oli but I am not convinced it is the right thing to do and therefore it makes it hard for me to sell it. I will push harder if more members say they want it brought back.

Not sure why we GOT a 'dislike' button in the first place.  I remember
a lot of us asking if it would be possible to have a 'Like' button.  No
mention of a 'dislike', but we got it anyway.  Maybe Oli could find a
way of putting back a Like option, only, as on many other message
boards ?
Agree the "Dislike Fairy" was a PITA, but now we are back to 'Square
One' with no quick way to signal agreement / lols,  without it having been
any of our fault ...

I don't see much point in it if it's based on who the poster is, not what they say. If it's not trackable by username, I don't see a lot of validity to it. Maybe one of those "thank you" options where people can see how many users found the post helpful, but doesn't give the option of "disliking" per se? I mean, if people really really want something like that. Personally, I thought it was cool when I thought there was a way to track/make record of the clicks, but when it's an anonymous popularity contest, I could just as easily do without.
