Hello! I have a female German Shepherd, that was bred her first time on Nov. 18th. 2013 . She had 3 ties total 18th., 19th. 20th. of November 2013 (Due Jan 20 2014 going with first tie). She doesn't seem to be showing at all and I can not feel any pups! I do plan to get her x-ray's here this wk., but was wondering, if anyone has had this with there German Shepherd?
You wouldn't be the first person to have this occur, and I can assure you that you will not be the last, either--and not just with GSDs, but with any breed, or any species for that matter. It happens. The stud could be infertile, your female could be infertile, the mating could have been too early, too late, or she could have had a non-ovulating heat and no eggs were released to meet the sperm. Or she could have conceived on one or more of the matings, and then exposed, unknown to you, to a virus or bacteria which caused her to abort and resorb the developing pups before she was far enough into the gestation for the pregnancy to be visibly evident.
Have the films done, see where things stand. If she's open, consider yourself to have gone through one of the many baptisms that come with being a breeder. It could be the last time you ever experience it, or it could happen many times over the course of your lifetime, sometimes with the same dog over and over again, sometimes with different dogs.
Hexe's is expirienced in gsd but her post could get someone off the cliff. I'd prefer she sounded more like a social worker in a casework.
I had the same expirience. After a marathon matings that lasted for nearly two weeks(because of previous expirience), no sign. I did see gradual breast enlargement, no morning sickness, no virgina discharge. Although, i did see belly enlargement but virgina is already shrinked back to normal. All this were in its 8-9 weeks after mating. I was so worried that, i remembered, i just prayed. Two days afterwards, i saw a slight-thick-colourless discharge, i called my wife to identify it, she affirmed it, two days later i could feel hard objects in her belly. I was in my office few days later when i got a call that puppies are crying in an empty flat i showed my bitch after i felt the pups in her.
You can't really tell. Just be patient. I've had bitches and had whelps but this time was a miracle to me. Why? She'd got 4 straight "false pregnancies", couple with the fact that she came in heat about 4 months after the last heat. Infact, she was until 54 days in-whelp up for sale. When the guy wasted time and heard she littered, the guy was amazed and became annoyed. That is gsd for you.
I have noticed some "slight" breast enlargement, but nothing of significance. She has been eating much more, than she has before....but not packing on any weight? She has also been getting snappy with my older female (keeping them apart now)
Ok I'm certainly no expert but I have had my share of GSD litters . I have noticed that the Vulva will not shrink back to its original size. It will remain slightly swollen during pregnancy. At 30 days into the pregnancy I can normally see in the flank area a slight bulge. These are my first 2 signs I normally see. Everyone else seems correct as well. X-rays and time will tell. I certainly have had a litter of only 1 and 2 pups before too and puppies can be a surprise if you think she just didn't take.
Well if she took from her first breeding you due date is correct; however I would just go x-ray her. You need to know because if there are only one or two puppies they could be hugh and she could need a C-section??? I say could, as I do not like to guess when it comes to whelping puppies... good luck Nan
X-ray, worth every cent. If you have even 1 puppy you can plan for it, if there's nothing will, better luck next time.

P.S.
My own dog has had 4 false pregnancies so far with milk, weight gain and nesting behavior. Since she has never been bred there are no puppies coming. But you can't tell her that.
Good luck.
The other danger with a singleton or very small litter, is the pups don't produce enough hormones to start labour, so you run the risk of them dying in the uterus if she's allowed to go too far past their due date.
I know a couple of people who have had this happen!
I very much appreciate everyone's input! I want to add, that her heat cycle was only 4 months after her last one! This girl is unique in every way....lol
I'd used to check for these signs in pregnancy; morning sickness, off/on feeding, breast enlargement, swollen vulvar, gradual enlargement of the flanks/dropping under belly and lastly, thick-colourless virgina discharge.
However, i never saw any of these, other than the gradual breast and belly enlargement(no flanks enlargement), but she got 5 puppies. I complained, researched/read about early pregnancies, and was shocked why my bitch's vulvar shrinked back to normal and dry, but she still was able to whelp 5 p's.
