I have not have very good experiences in buying German Shepherd dogs for breeding. I am looking for someone who is 100% honest and that I can trust. I've only been breeding Shepherds for 8 years & have bought many dogs that have ended up being misrepresented. I know there are good, honest breeders out there. If you have had a good experience with a honest breeder (in the United States) please let me know.

I can't give you any specific information, but I'm sure others here will be able to direct you, although it would help to specify what kind of dog you are looking for: working line or showline? Puppy, young adult or mature adult? Titled?

You've been doing this for 8 years?
Please stop.
Please stop.

A Lot, if not all of people I know don't want to sell dogs that are being bought strictly for breeding.
In fact, most reputable people won't. You are more than likely having difficulty finding someone that cares about you, because they apparently don't care about their dogs.
I would never deal with someone that don't take great pride In their dogs.
I would think after eight years in the breed, and breeding, you would have done some research, at least enough to know who Is honest and has breed worthy dogs.
Just out of curiosity, what line of dog are you looking for, what quality of dog are you looking for.?
And no, I am NOT looking to sell you one, just wondering what kind of dogs you are hoping to produce.

d9roc, I can see by another post of yours that you have had or pups you are responsible for have had an issue
with "partial laryngeal paralysis".
I also have tried to introduce new blood into my lines and found underlying health problems that
the previous "breeders" did not have a clue they exsisted or they have still used a dog with
obvious known health problems.
Unfortunately I had held back pups thinking I was all set with the "new bloodline" being introduced
and then finding out I am left with various health issues, finding out about them as the pups matured and
through other puppy owners that got pups.
The best I can do is part with the problem dogs and go looking around once more for "new bloodlines"
to be introduced.
Sometimes I can work around the defect and breed it out in just one or two generations, but other times
I just plain part with the pup/dogs I've kept and start over.
I have 6 generations of my own breedings, so when I use what I have and closely linebreed I feel more
comfortable about the outcome.
I have found that "some" breeders don't mean to screw you over with problems in the lines they are using,
they just simply have no clue.
All GSD's carry health problems, it's up to the breeder to figure out who is causing what to crop up!

Just because no one has had something happen to them before doesn't mean their dogs won't produce it in the right combination. The previous breeders may well be telling the truth- your bitch may just be that lucky combo that causes those genes to show themselves.
I guess I'm confused, too, after 8 years, that you don't have close personal friends who are very involved with the breed at high levels- people you could trust to sell you a good dog for breeding. It just seems like one of those questions and things to figure out BEFORE you start producing lives. I didn't even think about producing a litter until several years under the wing of a VERY experienced mentor and about 8 years in the breed myself...just learning. By the time I started breeding, I had a pretty good idea what to look for and I can say honestly, that I've never been screwed by anyone, though I take my fair share of the responsibility for the way things turn out, so maybe I just don't look at things the same way, and I also don't produce many puppies. I have only about 4 GSDs at once, usually.
