Beautiful!  Yet, I'm sure, devastating to some.  Was it that bad at your place RS?

No, our hydro was out for an hour, however half an hour from me, their hydro was out 3 days, and other places still have no hydro. Many linesmen flew in  from Manitoba,  (gave up their Christmas) to help restore it.  Many from Ontario did the same.  :)  Very generous of them!

Looks like a terrible ice storm RS.

The only good thing is it will weed out all the weak branches, trees etc. So if you have another ice storm it won't be anywhere near as bad.

Amazing pictures,
beautiful but destructive.
We were without power for ten days the last time we had an ice storm similar to this, it wasn't nearly as bad as this.
What do you mean by hydro?
Water, or electricity?

Today I stacked new wood in a tee shirt, go figure.

Moons, I guess that is a Canadianism. It's short for hydroelectric power, electricity generated by the flow of water. The utility that provides my power is Hydro One.  I don't know how much of the electricity is actually generated by water, and how much comes from other sources, such as coal-fired plants, or solar, but the generating plant at Niagara Falls is one of the big suppliers of energy for S. Ontario.

Had a big tree branch come down yesterday, right in the middle of the driveway. The trees are still laden with ice. However, if that's the worst to come out of this ice storm, I can count myself very, very lucky! The temps got warm enough yesterday that some of the ice coating everything melted and fell off, and the trees aren't as bowed over as they were.

Power was out this morning for long enough that I had to reset some of the clocks. And we had snow yesterday.

We've had so many green Christmases in recent years that this one seems unusual, until I remember the Christmases of my childhood when snow was the norm. There's close to a foot of snow and ice covering the ground.

Wow, glad you didn't have more damage!

I love the Falls in winter, one of my favorite places during big snow falls.  It's only about 5 hours from here, so it's a good week-end get-away.

We used to have white Christmases when I was a kid too.  We were always able to test out our new "Flying Saucers", Flexible Flyers (after waxing the blades, of course!) and any other snow-fun equipment that was under the tree :)  Used to be we didn't see grass from late November to March, not so much anymore, all we seem to get is dreary, cold rain.

This year we lucked out, it snowed a bit on Christmas Eve and stayed cold, so at least we had a bit of white.  It was a beautiful, sunny, crisp day and the drive to my daughter's was enjoyable on those country roads.  On the way, there's a little stone Church with a cemetery surrounding it, right at the crest of a hill (as a matter of fact, it's on "Stone Church Road", what a coincidence :)) and it looked just like a Christmas Card.  I was writing a greeting in my head, LOL.

Anyway, glad you're okay and you've got utilities.  Happy New Year!

You Canadians...lol
A hydro pole...ok.

Our last ice storm took the tops out of so many beautiful old trees and now they are ugly and in fact going to die now from the inside out.
Tornado's are worst.

GSDtravels,
I know what you mean about waterfalls and icicle's in winter, they are marvelous.

I hope everyone gets their lights back on, it's no fun in winter, I've had to make coffee on my gas grill more than once...lol
At least when it's cold i don't lose food, I just set it outside.
