Male aged 13 months, would a better rotation of the legs made these hips look better?

Another x-ray would probably not make a difference with these hips;  however, this is not good positioning;  so if you are not happy with the x-rays; have them redone by another vet just to see.  Cannot hurt at this point.  Only thing is the anestesia.  Hate that stuff.  Maybe you could use slight or very small amount of sedative instead of putting all the way under anastesia.  (Shit can't spell it)  oh well you probably know what I mean.  Good luck  Nan

I'll be the dissenting voice here. YES, a correct x-ray will make them look better. I won't say it will make them PASS, but it'll definitely make them LOOK BETTER, which is what you asked. The sides are not symmetrical, and the patella is way out to the side. Correct inward rotation and pelvic symmetry and being level on the table will improve the look of the hips.

Show this video to the vet shooting.

The reason for having the knees rotated inwardly is to seat the hips as deeply in the sockets as possible. This dog's knees are not rotated inwardly. IMO another xray will make the hips look better and they may be good enough for an OFA prelim fair.

Agree with Blitzen.

I see no "medusa" line of remodeling on the femoral head; I see nothing else scary in the head/neck region and I don't see the sockets being damaged, either; I see different presentations on each side that cause one socket to look deeper than the other. I think people are seeing the flat spot and thinking the head is damaged; the flat spot (feel like a broken record, here) is NORMAL. It's just that in a proper x-ray, we don't see it.

If it were my dog, I would be a stickler for positioning and definitely re-shoot the films.

Thank you guys, this is a male puppy from my last litter, he is in a wonderful home his owner is experienced and has trained 3 previous GSD to high degrees of obedience and I trust that she has done nothing to excess with this brilliant young boy, she has great hopes for him. He has not had any injury nor has he shown any lameness or pain on manipulation, his owner has done obedience but no jumps as yet (though he happily jumps when running free). I did express my disappointment with the positioning and and she has spoken to her vet and they have an appointment early January to discuss these xrays and I have suggested to her that the vet should redo at no charge. Post anesthetic this puppy slept for almost 24 hours ..... mine are always fully awake and ready to run by the time we drive 2 hours home lol.

Jenni & Blitzen, I agree there is no remodeling of the femoral head and you have confirmed what I am thinking. I also email the owner  2 of my own dogs xrays for comparison of position & rotation of the legs so that we see those bulls eyes and she saw right off what I was telling her and she then sent my email to her vet to stress just how she felt about the positioning, hence the January appointment Wink Smile

Would you rather rexray soon or leave for say 6 - 9 months?

I'd do them now and just submit to SV if you don't want to have to redo them when he's 2. Otherwise, redo them now so you have the comparison, then redo when old enough to certify.

As far as sending in hip/elbow xrays to the SV, how do you do that?
