Hi all,
I'm looking for a reputable breeder. I would like to get a blk/red puppy in the near future, anyone have any suggestions? I've heard alot of horror stories so I thought I would check if any of you had good experiences.
Thanks,
Nick

what do you want the puppy for?
where do you live?
where will the dog live, inside or out?
is this your first GSD?
do you want american show lines or euro show lines?
do you have a trainer lined out?
this might help in finding a breeder.

I live in Oklahoma, would prefer Euro show lines, this will be my second GSD which will live mostly outside. I don't have a trainer lined up, not sure where to find one in my area. I would really like to get into SAR. Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Wiildwolfe if you e-mail me I might be able to give you some ideas for trainers once I know your location. cynthia@gsdnet.org

Nick,
A logical question or two,
Do you have room for a GSD outside, or is your space limited?
That's more curious than logical.
What do you imagine the price of a good GSD would be?
I may have a suggestion.

Two Moons,
We currently live on a 1/4 acre lot with fenced yard. We plan on moving to an acreage in the not so distant future. There are plenty of green areas in our neighborhood to run in. The price....not sure. I don't really need a champion, as I have ZERO experience, but I would like to get into the sport/working aspct of training. Mostly to keep to dog healthy and happy. I seem to be having a bit of trouble finding any clubs or trainers in my area. Ctidmore might be able to give a few suggestions though (Thanks). I would really like male pup, but my priority is finding one that is a bit on the calm side, as I have a 4yr old son that would also like to play with him/her.
Thanks so much for any help.

You could locate people who do search and rescue through your local EMS or law enforcement, go from there, see what's involved before you jump into the water.
You also might find leads to local breeders through them who have the type of dog your seeking.
Not a high drive dog, not an expensive dog, my best dog was $350.00 and exceeds my expensive imported dog in all ways, and not a show line dog if it's presented as one.
Talk to people who do search and rescue if you can find them in your area, they usually know what they are doing without all of the nonsense you'll get from some breeders.
Know everything you need to know before you get a puppy.

SAR dogs are usually very high drive, especially to a toy. If they don't have the drive, they will quit in the middle of a search.
As far as outside, why?
A dog that lives outside can only protect your lawnmower and grill when a robber comes thru the front door to steal from you or worse.
Also dogs that live outside are more often stolen then inside dogs.
