Hi I am new here and wanted to know if anyone has experienced this. I have a female who is a very heavy bleeder with long heat cycles. I had progesterone tests ran on her from day 8 every other day until she finally ovulated at day 21 in her cycle. The bleeding subsided the day she ovulated and she was bred naturally the day after and 2 days after that was bred again. Now three days after the last mating she is no longer swollen but the bleeding has returned, accept now its a thicker dark brown blood, it looks like "old blood." I have never experienced this before, my girls are done bleeding once they are in the estrus part of their cycle. I had a diagnostic ultrasound done on her before she came into season to make sure she had normal healthy reproductive organs, and the vet said everything was normal. Her thyroid is normal as well.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen to one of their females before? Did you end up having pups? I would appreciate any information, thank you

Hi, 4Goldens, I was in your shoes 3 months ago. I have just gotten done scrubbing the floor up after my 8 gorgeous monsters;-). I'd never had a bitch do that before, either. Her mother cycles 3x per year, short cycles, but always conceived, and this one is the opposite- more blood, longer period of bleeding, and she was bleeding after breeding. I don't do progesterone so I figured maybe I'd bred her too early and she was one of those who ovulates very late in her cycle. The blood, IIRC, was also darkish, like the tail end of a cycle blood. I was worried initially, too, about infection, etc. However, her appetite was voracious, her energy through the roof, and the blood/discharge didn't smell like anything at all, so I figured I just mistimed, though the stud is an older dog who is very accurate and doesn't waste energy;-). This bitch also never went fuschia, then straw-colored fluid, either. No complications during pregnancy, no whelping complications, and pups are fantastic. That's just the way she is, I guess. Hope yours is the same and you have my same, happy ending!

One of my girls bled until about 6 weeks after mating.  She is currently nursing a healthy litter of 8.  Never had this before and it didn't happen with her first litter.

Just wanted to update, she had her ultrasound at 25 days post ovulation and it showed 12 puppies with viable heartbeats! She did finally stop bleeding a week ago.
