You've found your ideal stud, he has just the temperament and drives you're looking for in a nice looking package to boot, and has all health clearances (HD/ED etc) however, this dog has no titles, no koer etc due to the fact he is a working police dog. Do you disregard sv standards and use this dog or sigh and move along? A hypothetical situation just interested in opinions, thought it would make a good discussion.

I would use him in a HEARTBEAT !!!! But be ready for the blood, cause now I'm now gonna get stabbed to death ! Real working dog Certifications are just as good as a specialized title, Like the FH for example. ok here it comes, so gotta go put on the armor.

Some ads that were and maybe still are on here have one of the dog's with no title, but are working K9's or drug detection, SAR, or Personal Protection dog. s I don't see anything wrong with it. Our 1/2 West working and 1/2 West showline girl, her father was a K9 police dog in our area, but he also had SchH3 title. Just my opinion. Hope that helps.

Our kennel would jump at any oppertunity to use a working Police K9 over a titled dog any day of the week.To me this kind of dog has just as good if not much better rating for breeding than a titled dog, and has proven itself to be of the most desirable traits for a working dog. Most people don't realize that to become a working K9 or Military Sentry dog it is 10x if not much more harder to do.The screening methods of becomeing such a dog is not only being able to perform under any circumstances that may arrise but the genetics and hereditary background check is harsh. These dogs in my opinion will always be better. Use him! The police certification is just as good if not better. Not all titled dogs will do police work.

If you are not trying to VA your pup. I would use him over the SV standards. Temperment/Nerves above all else.

Hypothetically speaking, no actually I have seen a Shepherd K9 that was an amazing tracker but problem protection dog. He has more finds in difficult situations than all the other dogs on the force. He remained as a go to dog for certain situations but was respectfully held back in others. BTW Echo an FH is worth squat when it comes to breeding worthiness.Let's keep our eye on the whole picture and not just the pieces. So to answer the question NO until I personally seen the dog put out as much as an exceptional SCH 3 dog.

I would have to see him work, see his nerves, drives, temperament for myself - the same as I must see a Schh3 stud dog work before I would use him for my program. Plus, police dog or Schh3 dog - must have adult passing hip rating. molly

Echo says... I would use him in a HEARTBEAT !!!! Yeah, you would. Not for betterment of the breed but for the bucks! Mel graymelody@gmail.com

To me, if I think the dog is worth using and he is a working police k-9, and has good hips and elbows, then this would be ok. However, there are very few police dogs that are as good as dogs that show for sport. This is due to several reasons, which , at this time, I will not go into. Tri-state states that not all titled dogs can do police work. This is true, but I have seen very few police k-9s that are capable of performing well in the sport or that I would want to breed to.
