Names of VA male dogs which are over sized?

by hexe on 27 November 2013 - 01:11

There shouldn't be ANY VA dogs that are oversized, since the standard sets a height limit for males of 65 cm, and dog that doesn't meet the standard certainly shouldn't be awarded a VA rating. Anything over 65.0 cm is considered a fault, and anything above 66 cm is a disqualifying fault. Why would you want a dog that does not meet the standard?

Why are you asking?

by Ibrahim on 27 November 2013 - 12:11

Judges recently have been paying more attention to size, last recent top producer I heard was oversized is Tyson

It is also said his oversize stopped him from becoming a VA

And yet Tyson is being extensively used by top breeders, covering many outstanding females in Germany and elsewhere.
His size does not seem to be stopping him from being widely considered a top producer, and he also does not seem to be producing alot of oversized offspring, but of course maternal lines need to be considered when selecting Tyson as a stud . Beautiful animal irrespective of his size and a wonderful progeny group!

I'm not interested in a dog's weight. Weight's not a good indicator of size. too many variables: muscle mass versus fat, whether he's been in-keep for muscle, whether he's in average shape, or whether he's become less active. A dog's weight can fluctuate a great deal depending on whether he's heavily worked daily, and has accumulated a great deal of muscle mass, or whether he's shown occasionally. I'm not talking about obese dogs, skinny dogs, or the classic weight exaggeration because people want to have a giant dog.

I had a male, in top working condition his max weight was 105lbs. He was not fat, nor was he over-sized. He was simply a muscular beast. When he retired, his weight slowly dropped as he lost muscle mass. If I'd kept up with the same amount of food as he required when he was working hard, his weight would've probably stayed the same, except then he would've been a fat blob, lol.

Feeding him appropriately for his activity levels, he came down into the 89lbs range.
