Trivia from: http://en.wikipedia.org/
The 1976 edition of the American Heritage Dictionary included only the definition regarding geek shows. Wrestler Freddie Blassie originated the term "pencil necked geek".
The first documented appearance of the word "nerd" is as the name of a creature in Dr. Seuss's book If I Ran the Zoo (1950), in which the narrator Gerald McGrew claims that he would collect "a Nerkle, a Nerd, and aSeersucker too" for his imaginary zoo.

So, in your opinion, is it better to be called a geek or a nerd?

I think in these times, it just does not matter how we describe this incredibly different but modernisticaly, desirable type of person. It is funny how something that starts derogatory does, in the grinding of time with some outside impetus that just does not quit, changes our perceptions over time.

through my school years I have always been attracted to nerds (the quiet, smart type that always stayed away from crowds and looked too well put together, NOT the steve earkle(?) from family matters, loud, know it all, geeky type)...the problem was they were sooo afraid of me, i remember kissing one after being his friend for like 4 months, he was shaking so hard, his whole body was trembling, that was in high school he literally slipped and fell down the stairs, he never looked at me again...i though he was the hottest nerd i ever seen...
