I've been trying to find the perfect "retirement" home for an older GSD for quite some time. She is 7.5 yrs old, working line import. Geena has had Sch training but never titled. Never had a litter and will not be placed as a brood bitch. Prefer a home where the predominant handler is male, as she prefers men. LOVES children, hates other females, plays well with males who are versed in canine body language. She is VERY active for an almost 8 yr old dog, and runs miles and miles with the 4 wheeler without tiring. She has had hips and elbows xrayed, and I can pm a copy. She is tattooed, chipped, AWDF/Sch USA scorebook. Best phase is tracking.
If you know of someone looking for a good starter GSD for Sch please let me know.
I've tried on my own to find her the perfect home with no luck. Whoever does adopt her will need to pick her up in person, in central NC.

Melba: is she cat friendly? I read that she likes kids, but not other dogs except smart males?? Too funny, she's no dummy. Nan

My old Dog Smart cat used to sit outside of her kennel and she looked interested at best. I would venture a guess that if kitty ran, she would give chase. I doubt she would pose any threat to a dog savvy cat. No, she's not a dummy :) I can walk her (on a pinch) on one side with my other female on the other side, but I don't trust her out of my direct control around another girl. I have a nagging feeling that bad things would happen, and large vet bills would be the end result. She's not uncontrollable around them (read: Does not go ballistic on lead and will ignore for the most part on lead).
She works VERY nicely for my 10yr old son with the fuss, sitz, platz, bliven etc... ENJOYS working for him. Not so much me (a female). I would feel comfortable with her going with a beginner handler just getting their feet wet in the sport. She changes handlers easily, LOVES car rides, doesn't eat out of kennels or jump fences.

OK. I have a friend that if the right dog came along would give him/her a wonderful home; she prefers females BUT has 7 cats and does cat rescue. Probably not a great fit but she is a wonderful home. Soooo, I will keep your girl in mind. Maybe just getting her on the PDB will help to find her forever home. Good luck Nan
