Very nice to read an article like this. A woman's 4 year old pit bull prevented 4 attackers from invading her home, but suffered serious injuries from a machete while defending her.

The cops chipped in $400 to help treat the dog's injuries!  Teeth Smile

This happened in Edmonton, Alberta. (Waves Canadian flag...)  Teeth Smile

I'm sure she had an ulterior motive.

Moi? Ulterior motive?

Just so you know, I am NOT a big fan of pit bulls, but a good dog is a good dog, regardless of breed.  And there are some really nice cops out there.

As for the flag-waving, welll, what can I say!  Teeth Smile  We all like to toot our own horn now and then!

And in MHO, on the whole, the attitude towards animal rights in Canada is more sane than in the U.S. For instance, my insurance co. thinks my GSDs are an asset, as part of my home security system!

There's also a lot less paranoia here toward police and others in authority. We may not care for our government leaders, but we don't consider them as part of a vast conspiracy to bring in the rule of the Antichrist or take over the globe, to mention some of the more extreme views I've heard from people in the States!  Roll eyes

Okay, I know that's not part of the mainstream view, but if there ARE nutjobs here who hold views like that, you just don't HEAR about them, as a rule!

(Quickly deletes the link to the photo of the guy standing on the corner of Yonge and Bloor, wearing a placard that says 'The end is near" and "Gays are going to Hell, impeach Premier [of Ontario] Wynne!")

GSDs are an asset, considered part of home security?  How awesome and can they talk to my insurance company?  Wonderful that police helped out with the costs and the dog was a hero.  I know I will never be without a couple of my favorite breed GSDs.  My mom already asked if she ever gets dementia and starts wandering, can I train one of my dogs to bring her back safe and sound.

Not YOU, SS. I was joking, saying the dog must've had an ulterior motive, 'cause, ya know Pit Bulls are bad, just waiting for us to let our guards down.......BAM!

LOL, Jenni!

When I said I am not a fan of the breed, it's 'cause what ignorant humans have done to them, with indiscriminate breeding producing unstable dogs. These dogs WERE originally bred to fight bulls, so they have great tenacity and very strong jaws. You have to take that into account when breeding them, and make SURE you are producing dogs that have good temperament. Heck, same goes for ANY dog that's big enough to seriously hurt a person!

And, of course, the dog pays the price, not the humans responsible. What Smile

Mindhunt....i second that (home insurance!) i don't understand why it goes UP if you have GSD, while you know well enough that house with GSD will be less likely broken into....we had 2 neighbors whose AC were stolen in last 2 months...we and neighbor to our left both have GSDs, both of our neighbors one on his and and one on my right side lost their AC's 1 week apart...and we are considered in an upscale neighborhood with houses listed for sale between 260K and 500K range...what is this world coming to?

One of my university profs. owned a home that backed onto a ravine. He had a Sheltie. His home was the ONLY one that was not broken into when burglars targeted his street!
