"HD-zuerkannt" (hip dysplasie-awarded) means that the hips passed the evaluation by the S.V.. This designation was used before the S.V. began to grade passing hips with the description of a1 (Normal), a2 (fast Normal), or a3 (noch Zugelassen). I don't know the exact year that this grading system was initiated, but it was sometime during the 1970's as I recall.
It is very similar to the past practice of the O.F.A. when all passing hips were described as "Normal". Eventually, the O.F.A. used the grades of Excellent, Good, and Fair to describe the quality of the passing hips. This grading system appeared sometime in the late 1970's or early 1980's.

You see it more in more recently-born dogs in the MNJK registry as well, in 1997 on one of my dogs' grandsires, so I guess they were using the pass-fail system for a longer period. I was one of those going "what the heck is zuerkannt?" a few months ago, LOL.
