OMG this melodrama again
Jantie, are you ever going to let this go or tell the truth about why you put this dog down?

by greatestgsd on 18 January 2007 - 17:01
Jantie, let this dog rest in peace! Or are you afraid you did not do right by him?
by Blitzen on 18 January 2007 - 17:01
I second that. Too bad many of the previous posts regarding this tragedy have been deleted.

I know the story about Indy and Jantie... I followed the drama here like every one else.
I think you folks should look at his presentation before being so harsh. You might learn something.
To Jantie,
I can see you are in "pain" for your loss of such a fine dog.
You have my condolences and thanks for the information you supplied.
Sad thing is. HD seems to occur in even the most screened of dog breedings. It seems that the best laid out plan or intention of having our dogs x-rayed doesn't prevent HD.
It's such a devistating genetic/environmental condition for dogs and humans alike to endure.
God Bless you Jantie,
Mel

Melody, there is a lot more to this than what is on Jantie's web site. Too bad most of the posts have been deleted.

Thank you very much Mel for your kind words.
The whole truth, Blitzen, is on my website. I can't help it if you don't read German.
You obviously can't live with the idea that we put the dog to rest, and did not follow some proposals to use Indiana as a guineapig, put him in a wheelchair, dope him with painkillers til he drags himself around like a zombie, or send him to some strange woman across the ocean.
As if Indiana did not have he best care in our own hands. Now the decision was supported by the best experts of the university clinic of Gent. You wouldn't want to tell this community, your judgement is superior, do you?

You are a butthead, Jantie. No one on this board suggested anything at all like that. Once again you have taken everything said out of context and spun it around to make yourself look like a poor pathetic dog buyer who got screwed with a crippled dysplastic dog. You yourself admitted that he was only lame when you walked him 3 miles every day, but that didn't stop you, did it? You asked for recommendations for supplements, but you said your never tried any of them. Ifd you loved him so much, why didn't you take any of these suggestions and give him another 6 months. You sucked us into this melodrama, we got to know that dog and really liked him and then we got rewarded with a detailed documentation of his euthanasia. Now there is more? How long are you going to milk this?
Think what you want of me, I don't care. I would never go on a board seeking sympathy by putting down a dog that could have had a chance at a normal life nor would I post a detailed blow by blow description of his death so others felt sorry for me. And don't say the dog was suffering, you always said he couldn't keep up at the end of his daily 3 mile walk. You NEVER said the dog was in constant pain until you started your campaign to discredit Herr Gobl. You story has changed more times than I change my socks.
I'm sure some will feel sorry for you and think I'm a heartless bitch, mission accomplished. However don't ever forget I know what went on behind the scenes trying to save this dog from being put down as revenge again his breeder. Now you turned it all around to look like you are the wronged party, have even published your skewed statistics on the inheritance of HD in the GSD. You did it in spite of of one poster to this board with far more knowledge than you have telling you that your calculations were wrong.
It's always been all about Jantie and getting revenge and zero about the dog. I pray to god no one ever sells you another dog of any breed.

Everyone who has been in the breed for any amount of time has been acquainted with HD. It is always a disappointment and generally a heartbreak, although it is not always crippling in it's severity. Personally, I think that the numbers are much higher than what are being reported. But, "you pays your money, and you takes your chances". Join the club. I didn't start to get away from this problem until I got into the East German dogs. Lots of "Fair" ratings from OFA, but they were sound dogs and I had very few truly HD positive dogs after that. I OFA certified almost 100 dogs over 25 years and most of them were DDR (East German) dogs. Well, people want "pretty" dogs and show dogs, so you have to take the peaches with the cream, the lumps in the oatmeal, etc. To me, the HD and show dogs go together for some reason. That was my experience, anyway.
You said your dog had unilateral HD. Let me guess which side.. the right side, correct? Most GSDs do have unilateral HD and more often than not it is on the right side. Why? Well, most of the dogs are "right handed", meaning that they would rather turn right than left, given a choice. I strongly suspect that this has something to do with it. I develped a method to diagnose HD in the developing pup, but I have only explained it to a couple of people. It is very accurate and requires no anaesthesia or x-rays, although it should be confirmed radiologically before any major decisions are made (keep, place, spay, neuter, put down, etc.) I did find it to be very helpful, though.
