bought up by a strict religous mother - ended up standing over the stand over men for money, spent most of his life in jail where he cut his own ears off. wrote best selling children's books and semi fiction/autobiographical novels.
conflicted many people as he was both loved/hated and feared by the public.

doubt you would have said that to his face, but yes he does have a sense of humour.

Oh? ... I think Carlin would say it to his face. I think Carlin could be a real mean dude... if he wanted to be one.
Do you admire this man, yerself?

Let the poor man RIP, but the truth is, the "Thunder from Down Under" would have stolen his Lunch Money. His bodyguard's lunch money too. I had the great pleasure to assist in his training, and I can honestly say, in his era, he was one of the toughest men alive. Stan Longinidis

slam just a reminder if it means anything to you, you are discussing someone who just passed, if that means anything to you i don't know.
to answer yr question - i like a lot of others are conflicted, he is/was a vicious brutally violent criminal for sure, read his work you will also see a funny and intelligent guy. he did have a crap hysterical religious start in life, not an excuse but a fact. and more importantly to the public he stood over the most vicious criminals, he never robbed old ladies or raped or any of that stuff...he was a criminal's criminal that thugged the most brutal thugs at the top of the food chain.
so in summary i think he is a human with a lot of wasted potential that fell away from good and never could be recovered. remeber he did not accept a liver transplant that would have kept him alive because in his words he "did not deserve it", to me that shows some morals and remorse.
on top of all that he was funny, generous and had strict codes that he did not break.
if that means i like him or not i don't know.
finally altho he spent most of his life in prison he was never convicted of many things he was arrested for, some suggest that he may have had knowledge of doings that would implicate those on supposedly the right side of the law and walk away from many charges he did.
ETA, cultural thing, we started as a convict country and our biggest national hero's are guys like Ned Kelly (google it) and many criminals.

Thanks for that answer, vk4, that sounded honest to me.

I also believe that very few men, even real badasses, would have had the balls to say much of anything to Chopper's face. He seemed like he may have had some skills, I didn't see enough to tell. What he did seem to be was, very unbalanced. He seemed to be a man to be respected and feared. He also seemed like he may have been a man to remove from office, before he did it for you. I don't think I could sleep, if he was my cellmate.
