Hired Dog

by Hired Dog on 09 October 2013 - 09:10

I dont have an IPO dog, but, even if I did, would I let it become obsessed with chasing birds from tree to tree, NO...that serves no purpose, other then some exercise, but, I have better ways of getting that out of my dog. Would I allow my dog to eat some bird that fell out of a tree/you killed, whatever, again, NO. On the other hand, I am very envious of your property size and wish I had it.

True, lovely playground you got there! My non IPO dog happens to have a grudge against those big ravens, they are not welcome on his turf.

Can you do me a favour and put that Pic of little Miley where she is astride the back of Gina and put it on this thread you did it for me when you posted the pic,s on the site before i posted again. It is about time that the OP really learns what these dogs are all about. i have tried to make the original smaller for this site to accept but i cannot make it happen.
Many Thanks
Steve

Then i will add the text. and it goes as follows. Whoever is handling the sleeve with that Dog does not have a clue what he is doing to start with. and as i keep racing pigeons my dogs are trained to leave all birds alone as they have the right, meaning the birds to be left in peace i love birds in my Garden. It is about time that you started to learn how to handle dogs in the right way. Sooner or later your dogs are going to do something which only they will suffer for. Allowing Dogs to act in the way you do will eventually turn to something else and the fault will lie with you; But it is the Dogs which will Suffer
Now vk4gsd Can you get your dogs to act in the way Gina does with a small child; She is remember trained in the Sport of IPO which you rubbish so much; so getting your dogs to act this way should not be a problem; let us see a pic of your dogs doing the same or similar

What's the big deal about a dog acting properly around a child? ANY decent GSD should be fine with children. I don't care if a dog LIKES children, but they must discern threats from non-threats. IPO is a sport. Police dogs can also be fine with children, and they at least have real bites under their belts (collars?) as opposed to sport-only dogs. I don't understand what on Earth that would have to do with how a dog is with kids? It's a sport. Period. Should a football player beat up children? Should a boxer? Should a hockey player attack children with a stick? Why would a sport dog have a problem with children? Doing IPO and being a normal dog are not mutually exclusive. Pretty sad that there's reason to believe otherwise.

Sorry to sound grumpy. My dog died yesterday so I am grumpy,  but while I think the video is pointless, I surely don't get the "Can your dog do this?" regarding something with a small child rebuttal. No wonder dogs are so f'd up when we act like it's a freaking accomplishment for a sport dog to be great with kids. Time we raise the bar on temperament, folks! That should be the NORM, not the exception.

Don't mean to derail, and yes, Steve, I agree that the poster has no idea what he's doing and is very likely going to do something stupid with that dog based on the numerous videos posted here and on other forums. And yes, agree again, that the dog is the one who will suffer.

Adorable pic; I don't even like children, generally speaking, but that child is ADORABLE. Look at that grin!

Black dog is nice looking, too; who is he?

what's the point?  if what you call the beginning is IPO????? well I don't know what to say other than it's more than obvious that person doesn't have a clue.  The rest?  are you asking if my dogs will chase things?  of course they will if I let them.  It's hardly an accomplishment

Firstly; I am sorry to hear that your Dog died. it is like losing a part of yourself and it is not at all a good time i can guess how you are feeling. The reason i mention the Child is that vk4gsd has mentioned the IPO sport and i guess he thinks that an IPO dog is not friendly and does not do the things other Dogs do it shows how much he is out of touch. Of course most well bought up Dogs like children. But seeing in the past that he has near as much boasted what his dogs can or cannot do to those strange people they may meet and how they are if left in kennels regards being handled and this and that etc I just put the Child bit in for his benifit. Would his dogs allow a child to do to them what little Miley is doing to Gina. that was the only reason for putting the Pic in.
I have no patience for people who think there dogs who cannot get along with other animals or humans, Meaning that if they threaten say a Human the Owner must be in control to call the Dog away and the Dog obey right away. I wonder if the OP has that control over his Dogs or have trained them to do it, If not why not
The Black Dog is 4 times IPO Belgian Provincial Champion now coming 10 years old, He and Gina had just won a Pairs Competition, She doing the Obedience and he doing the Tracking part. Little Miley daughter of a helper in the club was joining in
Many thanks Beetree for putting the Pic,s in ouch obliged to you
