So sad...  Don't often hear stories like this in Canada, as we've a smaller population than the States.

Hopefully this incident will help change the laws in Canada.  They should follow the US.  RIP K9 Quanto

As human we have to have more value for all kinds of life. Rest well Quanto.

No shit..."excessive use of force" for shooting someone who is in the act of stabbing/trying to kill my police dog...interesting.  Had this happened down here, getting shot 4 times would have been the least of this guy's problems. Imagine being there, looking at your partner getting stabbed to death and not able to do anything about it because of some pencil pusher who never spent a day working the street...

Just wanted to clarify that Quanto's killer was not physically harmed during his apprehension. The man who was shot four times for assaulting a police dog was a completely different case. However, that case was probably responsible for Quanto's owner NOT using his weapon to protect his dog.  Angry Smile

Oh, good! They are actually going to do it! The Speech from the Throne was given in Parliament today, and this was part of it:

They include:

— A law that would criminalize hurting a service animal. A German Shepherd police dog in Edmonton known as Quanto was recently stabbed repeatedly by a man police were trying to take into custody.

Hurray.   Maybe there is a government in this world with a brain cell or two.

they must teach the dogs how to fight an attacker with an armed weapon............i don't understand why they teach a dog to hold a bite while he is getting hit.
