anyone got anything? - seems it started as an authentic and deep movement that got corrupted from about billy sunday on into a fast food movement of cheap quasi-spiritual mind F's.

They fell in the water and called it good, Better than the first time. Heck they were babes then, and cried.

King James version:

JOHN 3: 1-3,6-8

There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

The next thing that happened was the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost:

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:1-4).

This gives the Bibical basis for the 'born again' movement. I don't know enough about revivals to delve into the history of the different movements, without doing more research, and I really have to get off the computer and get some work done!  My female GSD had some tummy issues during the night, and I need to finish the cleanup... Sick

But I WILL add this personal observation. Jesus said the two greatest commandments were to love God, and love your neighbour as yourself. He also said, "But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.,"

I don't see a lot of this happening in certain 'born again' movements in the current church. And although I AM a Christian, I hate the Tea Party and the Religous Right in the States, and what they are doing with trying to block the health care bill. They do not care one little bit for the health and welfare of those who cannot afford health care. As a retired nurse, I have heard of people actually dying because they could not afford care, or their insurance refused to fund treatment.

Just my personal opinion. Let's not drag this off topic with politics, though. I tend to get a bit hot under the collar when it comes to people suffering needlessly in the richest country in the world because they can't afford health care, which has been free to all citizens in my country for many many years!  Angry Smile

The term is far too ambiguous to provide a definitive history without a fairly comprehensive overview of church history, theology, and denomination, dating back to Martin Luther.

Carlin, nicely said.  "Born again' movements have been very different in different countries at different times. I'm pretty sure MY definition would be totally different from what VK4GSD is referring to, which, I think, are the conservative right-wing born again Christians in the States. We're as different as chalk and cheese!
