Male doesn't want to mate - Page 1

Can anyone help! I have a male, who is nearly 3 years old. Everytime a mating comes along, he only wants to play, although he does show interest by licking etc. Is there any advice anyone can give to help, me get an actual mating out of him! He is the only adult male in the kennel! We are a small hobby breeders, only doing it for pleasure, but we think we could get something good out of his lines to possibly start showing. Any Suggestions! Michael

While you may think it is mating time. Some males are very particular and only mate when it is "time". If he is normal in every respect, when he knows the time is "right", he will probably handle his business. I would say, be patient. Stephen

I had a male with the same problem, so I brought in another male... he got the idea pretty fast about what he had to do... You need some helpers to make sure the other male, does not get the deed done. Barb

Michael, Is it possible something is not quite "right" with the female ? You've had all the necessary preliminary health checks, bloodwork, blah blah blah done on her ? If not maybe get her workups done, they may tell you the "problem" if one does exist. If you've already had all the preliminary works done, well then I would think Stephen is correct. Be patient, brining in another male could be a huge issue if not done very cautiously.

Maybe he's gay

Hi i had a male that would not mate my girl she was standing tail turned ext did whot your boy was doing,after a day and a few choice words!!! i got the lead out put my girl on lead she thought going for a walk. i realy wound her up got her jumping a round diveing about like a mad thing(you get the idea) my boy got very intreasted!!so i praised him encouraged him it took a while but i got 9 pups out of that mateing.THE lead was 7ft long and gave her a mateing 2 days later straight there no messing he never saw her inbtween the 2 mateings he was also 2yre. hope this helps.

Perhaps he has very low testosterone levels. There are quite a few products for canines and human males alike to enhance libido. I would have a sperm count done on him. Low sperm count or sterile male is often the result of very low drive to breed. If the female is flagging, she is ready to breed. The drive to breed in a male is the strongest that he has, even stronger than food. He should be all over her. Still, if he is young and inexperienced, you may have to get him up to the female and, ah, use your hand to stimualte him a bit to build the drive. Once he gets going a little, push him away and let him come back for more. Stimulate him again with your hand. Not too much now. You don't want to over stimulate and have him tie outside. Just enough to get him worked up a little. Push him away again. Now, you are getting him worked up and you should have built up his drive sufficiently to breed the female. If not, you have a problem. wagonmaster: I could'nt agree any better. Teasing does work, even with myself {:) nothing wrong with a little 4play. On a serious note, when all the stars are alligned (when your female is ready), buy some Horney Goat Weed from your local store. 7 eleven carries it. Double the dose (4 pills) and feed it with wiener just before you get them together. This will make him horny as hell. Of course throw in the wagonmaster method into the mix. My male still wanted seconds after they were untied. It worked for me, (I meant my dog) it will work for you. Good Luck!
