We do a K-9 demo every year for our City's "Bark in the Park" event. This is a rather large event and has grown to about 10,000 people and their dogs attending. I'm trying to think of some new things to do that people would find interesting, exciting and fun. We are limited on what we can do, as of right now we can not drive any vehicles on the main stage area where we are doing the demo. This eliminates popping the door and deploying the dog, my dog sitting on top of the roof on the light bar wearing sun glasses and waving, and sending a dog over the roof of the car for an apprehension. So, some of the normal stuff is out unless we can drive a car onto the field. We will do an OB demo, perhaps a muzzle fight. I am considering multiple decoys and calling a dog off one decoy and directing the dog to another decoy. I had thought about doing some work with gunfire (blanks), but that may upset the spectating dogs and owners. We may do a Narcotics detection demo as well.
I'd be very interested in hearing about some demos where the handlers or dogs did something really cool that got the audiences attention. Something that was memorable and made a lasting impression; in a good way.
I'd like to make this demo really fun and better than previous years. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have four Handlers and dogs scheduled for the demo and a speaker so we have plenty of people to do what ever we want.

I will check my police dog video's that I have taped and let you know. One memorable video were dogs in Afganastan that were too green, don't want to demonstrate that. But I will look, all are fairly current and all have left a lasting impression on me. Nan

A helicopter landing on the field, with two dogs deployed to apprehend one perp in the truck ( I know you can't use a truck) and the other dog apprehended the fleeing perp. That was here in NC.
Years ago in Robins, Il, I saw a demonstration with multiple dogs of different breeds being handled by one k9 trainer. It was very impressive. He had dogs on a down and sent them after the decoy in a bite suit at different times. Wish I had a video of it. Edit to add; the dogs were all on the field at the same time, handled by one person.

Seeing Boomer on that bench or seesaw with his sunglasses on--waving his paw has also stuck with me. Love that dog. Nan

Slam, is the restriction about space, or tyre marks ? Can you get a motorcycle on the
field ? Or is it actually a Stage you'll be using, and thus its a q. of strength ?

Try guarding of objects (bags, suitcases, garment)Or detention and arrest of a man in a burning shed (this will be difficult)You can make the arrest of two persons with a dog or two persons of the two dogs from a helicopter.Try withdrawing weapons from man (sword, ax, or gun).Good luck!

Nans,
Thanks! Boomer waving is the easy part.
Joan,
While a helicopter would be a show stopper it is not something that we have trained or I can line up on short notice. I do have a buddy that flies choppers, but I couldn't swing it on a few days notice. It would be a awesome demo. The other issue is 3 of the 4 dogs at the demo are very dog aggressive.
Hund,
The restriction is the weight of the vehicles on the grass. I don't know if they have piping, plumbing or electric lines in front of the main stage, but parks and recs said "no vehicles" on the grass there. A motorcycle would work.
Nedev385,
We will use one dog to make two or three apprehensions. The burning shed will be a no go, I'm sure.

The classics might be fine in your case...
The " bad guy" riding bicycle...
or
The dog coming out of a stroller...

If you can get clearance to use a m/bike, you
might do some variant of a routine I have seen
occasionally: two decoys, playing kids joy-riding,
'steal' the motor bike and ride through demo area on
it. 'Crash' the bike, run away in opp. directions, two
dogs sent to bring them down.
Or maybe in this case one dog makes both arrests,
if 3 can't be released at the same time / area ?
