hello all, i have done alot of research and finally purchased a protection trained import. i'm in the army and either deployed alot as now or training and not home alot, so my wife said she'd feel safer with a trained dog around. my question is my dog is out of ernst vom weinbergblick lines . you can see his pedigree under the name ernst wildhearted. in reading i've found that bsp's are for working line dogs? correct and bzsz are more of a show line dog? correct me if i'm wrong. i'd also like to get more involved upon returning to the states from deployment in follow on training with my dog to learn more about the sport. i'll be relocating via the army to the tacoma area, and was wondering if any of you here are from the area or know other's in the area that can help me find some club's and trainer's in the area that i can attend and learn while ''working'' him. thanks in advance, kenny

Kenny, If you look on the following websites you'll find several clubs in the Tacoma/Seattle areas. Suggestion is to visit them all and take your time choosing the "right" one for you, Meaning make sure you feel comfortable with the folks in the club. Visit the DVG website USA website and might try for WDA as well. Type in USA Schutzhund into search bar it will come up same with the others. Some of the posters on this board might know some clubs personally as well, I appologize I do not yet. But Wish you the best !!

Kenny, I live in the Tacoma area. A good club and ones I stay far far away from. There's a great DVG club in Olympia which is very close. I would suggest visiting this one. http://dogequipment.com/csc/

I would suggest you look into having your wife join a club and train your new GSD. She needs to be able to control him while your away.

Hi there, is ernst wildhearted your dog ? If so, i bet he needs a lot of training, beeing 8 month old. What made you choose this line, i mean for what reason did you choose this dog ? I just glanced at his pedigree and have to say i would not go into this line, for the bad HD results. Both parents a3, aswell as a grandparent and a lot of a2 going back. Anyways, the suggestion of DR is a very good advise. I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with your dog. Ulli Dresbach

DR, my wife is also planning on joining and attending training with me. Oskar, yes ernst will be my dog, as he is in training now from the man that imported him from europe. he has already had seems alot of training and the trainer/ importer that has him now said that for his age he advances quikly in training but he needs to mature before moving any further. as for his 'lines' as i am new to the scene of imported shepherds other than the few i have seen work i'm also very new to the bloodline spagetti factory in gsd's. i must say that is one of the reasons i asked here is there seems to be so much knowledge, so hate to bug you all but ''knowledge is power''. my wife found him while searching the web as a level 3 protection dog. i'm currently deployed and she's 7 mo. pregnant, so with an about to be 3 yr old daughter and a new born on the way she want's to feel safer, and so do I. i'm not so worried about when i'm home, since i have the skill, training and knowledge to stop an intruder, but after all the looking we did on the web and talking to different ppl about a dog of this sort, i decided on ernst since a he is young and i wanted to have him for years to come, B the price was in my range. and C i generally really just took a liking to him when i saw him and video and his pictures. as far as a3's and a2's i was under the impression from ''reputable importes and breeder's or so i thought a2's were pretty much the norm and a3's being a still good hip but not excellent like an a1. all help i can get is appriciated. also it's an open form so speak what you all feel so i can see what educated on the subject opinions i get. and as another member i saw here posted momma didn't raise no fool, i did put a deposit on him to hold him till my mid tour leave, but if i don't like what i see when i go to pick him up including pre-lim x-ray's the deal will be made right, as i don't think anyone wants a deployed soldier to tell the whole world via internet how he was shammed by a dishonest person while trying to protect his wife and 2 daughters, while deployed defending everyone else's rights. sorry for the long post but figured it would help anyone reading see where i'm coming from and what i'm try to achieve. thanks again kenny

Kenny, I would research the "trainer" a bit more. What do the different levels entail by his standards? Be aware his levels do not coorolate with the Schutzhund levels. I hate to say this but a 10-month old dog being advertised as a level 3 is probably a reach. A 10-month old dog is still a baby, and should not be expected to truely protect your family. Also, when you do reach the Tacoma area, drop me an email. I will fill you in on some of the local clubs. The good, the bad, and the ugly.... Tina

a3 hips: a-noch zugelassen (still permissable). By OFA standards, either OFA-Fair (but only if you really get lucky) or rather Borderline to Mild hip dysplasia! Did you insist on a prelimiary hip xray prior to purchase? With parents like this I would have. What is a level 3 protection trained dog? An 8 month old is usually an overgrown puppy! Chris

well if you'd like to e;mail me i'll snd you a link to his site, but i'm not advertising on the board since he does advertise dogs for sale here. as far as him defending my family i'm not as worried about it now as we live on post in ks, not a high criminal rate there, but as i will be moving back to the seattle/tacoma area i know that there are some rougher areas there and we will not be living on post. i had the thinking that if i continue with his training that when we move there around jan 08 he will be more than capable of protecting them at the age he will be. also yes i requested that whatever dog i purchased had ''good'' hips, i was told that he will come with x-rays. and though their pre-lim's that they looked very good. thanks kenny, sar2475@yahoo.com

about the hips? from what i've read i know that HD is mostly hereditary, but that just becase the parent's were a3's that it didn't mean that their progeney would be a3, or worse or better for that fact so i was going off of what i was told that his x-ray's looked good. so if you could also shead some light on this or if i'm correct in the fact that it's possible his hips are ok, i.e. a1,a2, or even a3's??? i was planning on having them re x-rayed at 18-24 mo age and submitted to ofa? this is what is called for, for ofa hd? or did i read the ofa website wrong? thanks again kenny
