Sheriff Stan Sniff promoted Coroner Sergeant April Smith to Coroner Lieutenant this morning, Thursday, Sept 19th, in front of a huge crowd of family, friends and her coworkers from the Riverside County Coroner - Public Administrator offices. This was a unique piece of history this morning, as the Coroner Lieutenant position has been vacant for many years and this was a key portion of the newly revised "Coroner Career Path" under development for a number of years. April has a BA degree and is currently completing her Master's degree program. Congratulations Coroner Lieutenant April Smith! The excitement of the promotion and April's selection for it was very evident in the room today. Wonderful history made today for the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept and our Coroner's Office
professionals!
She is the achiever in the family.. LOL..

Between me and my two brothers, I think I came out ahead, just by doing what I wanted.
I don't make as much money as my younger brother, but his wife spends all of his money and if not for my dad setting him up in the business he'd be a sad sight.
My older brother did well in a government career but now he's living with his kids, one then the other, he's smart and stupid at the same time.
I think your not doing too badly erin, at least your trying to improve yourself, looking to disappear your liability shows achievement is in your blood too.....:)
She might have a uniform, but you have an Ass.

Bee, she does see dead people!! LOL.. She used to make me hang out with her at the morgue on her Sunday grave yard shift.. Creepy
Thanks for the vote of confidence from ya, Moons!! Yes, my sister is very career driven, she is very type "A" personality.. I've always been the laid back one.. I focused more on my kids when they came along, I think it's important for kids to have a parent that has the time to devote to their developing years, and I've been fortunate to have been able to be home with them.. Figured now is the perfect time to go back to school, since both are in school now.. It's funny my sister and I are total opposites, but we are very close.. We definitely gave our mom some trouble growing up!! LOL

by erin j on 21 September 2013 - 01:09

Not sure yet.........I've heard this more often than not.
Until you know you'll only waste valuable time, without direction you have no destination.
I wanted to be a Veterinarian, but after my older brother pissed his chance away, and some family problems arose, my financial backing and my chances I had dried up.
I ended up doing something I was already good at, working with my hands.
It's more rewarding even if I never got rich doing it, now that I look back, I have no regrets.
I am still able to see what I have done, the things I built still stand, the things I made are still beautiful.
I know many people with degrees doing something else because they cannot find work in their chosen field.

LoL, Moons my husband has a master's degree in business administration, majored in international business, he worked in insurance auditing for years, then we moved back to AL, he taught high school math classes, but with budget cuts everyone not tenured was laid off. He took a supervisor job at a plastic recycling plant to pay the bills till something in his field comes through.. All that education to do what high school grads could do.. I am just taking my basics right now, I'm leaning towards something in probation or corrections, since I have some classes towards a degree in criminal justice..

I worked for a time as an aid in a high school building trades class, if not for the fucked up school system there I would have stayed.
It could have been a rewarding job.
The teacher I worked with had tenure and nothing else, the kids were the ones who lost out in the end.
I applied here for a position at a local prison and what they were most concerned with was how I would handle the situation if I or another officer was down.
They wanted someone with construction experience to work with inmates urgrading the facility to a higher security level.
It also was a total clusterfuck starting from the top down and I declined.
They go through guards and other personnel like candy.
It helps to work for someone you can trust.
Now that jobs are scarce, employers seem to abuse their workers, in all fields.
Criminal justice seems like a contradiction to me...LOL

It's bad everywhere. I have a sister seven years my junior who will have a PhD by the spring and is struggling. Her husband has a Masters and can't find a decent job. This, in a major US city. The country is screwed, pimped and turned out to the point where I'm not sure it'll ever resemble what it once was.
