I just purchased my new GS pup, and need to give him a name. Can anyone tell me what VOM and VON mean. And if it is appropriate to use in the new registered name?

Ok, that makes sense to me now. So the mom is Tabbenoca VOM Kraftwerk. If I name the new pup, Fritz VOM Karftwerk, is that acceptable. Or am I to not use the Kraftwerk name for the pup? With horse registration you normally use the pedigree names for the new colt. Just trying to understand the process.
thank you

If Kraftwerk bred the pup, using their kennel name is appropriate; otherwise, it is not.

Hi Michelle,
The people that have the registered kennel name have a spot on the papers that they sign and give you permission
to use their kennel name, or if they haven't signed it you can ask, I don't see why anyone with a reg. kennel name
would say no, but it's always good to check with them
Fritz sounds like a cool name, any pictures?

Thank you for the feedback. I purchased the pup from the new owners/breeders... not Kraftwerk directly. And the new owners do not have a "Kennel" at least form what I can tell on the AKC form. Looks like I need to make a call to get the all clear - hate for anyone to be upset. :)

Call the breeder and ask. I highly doubt Kraftwerk will allow it as the pup is not from one of their breeding's. I would strongly suggest not using kennel names just because they are in the pedigree. As Keith advised, it is not appropriate.

Folks, thanks for your feedback. this is very different then horses..... :) I was able to find out that you can put any name on the registration as long as it is approved by the AKC, meaning no limitations in the name being used. Now that I understand the Kennel name is "normally" on the registration, this makes since to me. Need to get the breeders "kennel" name.
Thanks again for your opinion - it really helps

Just because AKC allows it doesn't make it right. AKC allows you to use any name as long as it is not registered through them, they allow you to use famous German kennel names as they are not registered here in the US. Even though they allow you to use these names it is in my opinion fraud.

From what I remember of my German, vom loosely translated means belonging to, and von loosely translated means originating from
