I saw this today and thought, wow, so that it explains it! Beau did this the other day. It is a very new thing that my eldest son drives these days. His vehicle is an older SUV type truck and is also the dog-fun transport vehicle of choice, too. So, the other day, I was inside chatting, with Mojo keeping me company, and I heard such a HOWL!

I looked out the picture window and in the front yard was Beau... howling... and my son had just left him behind. Hmm... I say!

Beckett howls whenever Carl leaves.  Sometimes they all howl for me, but Beckett always howls for Carl, whether he's taking out another dog, or going with me to the doctors or to chemo, Beckett howls, & then the girls chime in. I so love their howls, they SOUND like love!

LOOOL...i used to have Dobi that howled for fire trucks, car alarms, when leaving him behind, etc...i hated it...living in CA meant this dog howled every hour....so i don't allow any howling, it just rattles my nerves...when we got Tank my daughter went down to a bus and he let out a howl for the 1st time, not only did he get silenced by me screaming "shut up" but my disciplinarian Bailey gave him a nice friendly butt bite...he has not done it since....we do have a pack of dogs howling somewhere in a distance and it sounds like a pretty big pack and somewhat away from us but boy do i hate to be those people neighbor....

Obviously, Hundmutter, your dog is a hipster! Wink Smile

Jackie, the howls are quite stirring, and I agree, I feel the love, too! Heart

LF,
Luckily for our neighbors, this howling business has not become anxiety driven, or even repeated. Or, so I thought, two sets of neighbors just moved out! LOL We'll see soon enough if the new one's love dogs.... or not! They took their frustrations out on their shrubbery, hacking every foundation planting to the ground. They could hardly wait to wield their loppers against the offending rhododendrons and hollies. We just grab the binoculars and entertain ourselves.

Mine howl occasionally at sirens too.  What is odd is that they do not do it every time; maybe 1 out every 7 times will they howl.  I have wondered if it is because they know that there is something more going on.

I actually enjoy it, but then again it is rare enough not to be annoying; I am also a strange one that thinks the call of the coyotes and wolves (assumption, never seen) in our area is a beautiful sound.
