Mona's elbow xrays - Right Elbow.
Mona started to limp 2 months ago. She was limping on right side and the other day on the other side. Now, she is limping constantly on right frond leg. We have xrayed her both elbows and the vet is telling me her right elbow has elbow dysplasia and he would like to do surgery. Another two Vets told me that she has Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) and I should wait till she grows up from it. I met one lady with 2 years old golden from the same breeder and they had the same limping problems. She said that after one year her dog stopped limping and they have no problems anymore.
Is it true that we need to do surgery and is this the best option for her? The mother and father were graded zero for elbows and the problem is only in one elbow. I thought this issue was genetic and it was unilateral so I'm not sure if the diagnosis is correct. May I have your opinion please?
(picture 1 & 2-she was 5 months old; picture 2 & 3- she was 6.5 months old)

NO and NO... Let her grow up; of course they want to do surgery probably to the tune of about $3,000 per elbow. Let her grow up and she too will probably stop limping. I agree with the second opinion you got and find another vet. Good luck NAn

Did you see that vet on inside edition told the woman her dog needed a surgery that was going to cost ten thousand dollars .The woman said she couldn't afford it.
The vet told her he was turning her into humane society for animal cruelty if she did not do the surgery.
She did not go for surgery, the vet turned her in.
The dog DID NOT need the surgery, now police are after the vet for some type fraud or extortion.
That vet needs to be in trouble. I would report your vet too.
Dawn, makes you wonder how many poor pubs get un necessary surgeries.

Glad you did not take this as an insult but REALLY. Also wanted to let your know the positioning of these x-rays is totally incorrect. Not sure what area you live in but there is a present thread of Vet's being listed that do good quality x-rays,hips and elbows. Watch for a vet located nearest you before you spend any more money with these guys doing your x-rays. Much better luck next time. Nan
