So my neighbor, who traps beavers for the USDA just brought down some strips of deep fried beaver.. I lost a bet, so I had to eat a whole chunk.. He claims people eat beaver, but from the horrid taste I have in my mouth, I am doubting this.. But people eat all kinds of critters, just wondering if anyone really eats this?? I'm not the best judge of meat tastes, since I don't eat meat normally.. I think maybe they were just messing with me, seeing if I'd eat it :/

Adult beaver are very strong, (musk), time of year makes some difference also.
Some organs can be toxic, the tails are rendered for the fat, also toxic if too much is eaten, yuck, like rotten stiff jello.
I had it years ago when I trapped, didn't care for it either.
I don't think I'd want it deep fried though, I grilled a hind leg over hickory and char coal.
Ground hog's better, then coon, and dog makes a fine meal...................Mel Gibson, from the Patriot.
Now I just like to watch them build dams, instead of trapping them.

Amazing what they can build.

LOL..I think they were messin with you.

Right now it's squirrel season and the little shits better stay away from my peaches.
Not too bad deep fried.

Ever try Turtle soup?

Hmm.. Fooled again by my hillbilly neighbors!! LoL.. No never tried turtle soup, but have tried rattlesnake, which grossed me out.. I want to try alligator though.. I wasn't brave enough to try the squirrel my husband cooked last year, it smelt funny, and it was quartered up and fried.. I didn't like the look of it.. I'm from CA, transplanted to the south, some of the things they eat!! I thought they were full of it when they started talking about eating opossum.. Nope, they eat that too.. I made my son eat a black bird he shot awhile back, my thing is, if you kill it, you eat it.. He said it tasted like chicken :/  And dog wouldn't be any worse than eating pig, if we are basing what we eat on intelligence of animal.. LoL

LOL.....hillbilly.

I've eaten several kinds of bird, fowl, but a blackbird would have to be like a think piece of leather.
Even dove needs pounding to tenderize it.
Opossum is extremely greasy, nasty little animals, I'll pass.
What makes the difference is how and where the animal lives and what it eats as to a lot of choices.
Turtle soup by the way is very good, but takes some effort.

People around here are trying to figure out how to eat these invasive chinese carp that have taken over the river, slimy and smelly, boney.

My dogs will eat just about anything they kill; they won't touch opossum.

Same here, they kill them but wont eat them.
Sometimes they think they've killed them and I'll put one in the back of my truck to be hauled away and it will get up when no one's looking and run away....LOL
An Opossum will eat anything on the other hand.

I have raised orphan opossums, and to be honest, they are actually pretty nice..  They like to snuggle LOL.. I know, I know kind of creepy little critters, but if you get passed their looks ;) ...
The black bird was gross I am sure, but I was trying to teach him a lesson about killing things, just to kill them, not nice..
I've heard of those carps, watched a program on them.. Michigan or some wheres up north..?

Yeah we kept one too when I was a kid, pretty docile, but they still have teeth like a crocodile.

The carp from what I understand have already been found in Lake Michigan, they try to stop them with electricity in the water.
Since they are crowding out native species we need to find a market for them.

As a kid we were taught what critters were pests, we could kill them without having to eat them...still a good lesson to learn.

Commercially fish the carp, grind them up into cat or dog foods? LoL..   Non-native species do wreck havoc on ecosystems, for sure.. Look at the Kudzu plants down here, they are everywhere, choke out other plants, trees, and destroy soil.. But I'll tell you, it is a pretty, flowering vine, and smells good.. My goats love it, so they keep it down in our pastures, now if these dang nags would contribute to the bush hogging lol..
