The GV for 2013 for the ISSR Shiloh shepherds. What a STUNNING dog!  It also marks the first time a puppy has been picked as GV!
This is what I wish the GSD looked like...NO exxagerations, no humped back, no overly long upper thigh. Okay, I'd prefer a stock coat to a plush coat, but he obviously has a very nice, correct, double coat.

My hat is off to Riverwind's Teddy Bear!  Thumbs Up

If a GSD looked like that, then it wouldn't be a GSD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you know Shilohs aren't just poorly bred GSDs with long hair!  Wink Smile

You will find GSDs from the past, and even some current working line GSDs with structure very similar to the above dog. I don't agree with everything the Shiloh folks have done (large size, watering down temperaments) but wow, that is one nice looking dog!

Personally, I'd like to see darker pigment, (and there are Shilohs out there that are much darker than this boy.)

Im not a fan of LC, but I have to say this is a nice looking boy.  In my opinion, I do not agree with a puppy being awarded GV. I feel that should be the title an older more mature dogs should carry. There are so many things that could go wrong with any puppy that the GV award would not be justifiable.  Unless there was a VERY low entry and the quality enter was not there, I am sure a mature dog of GV quality could have been awarded.  I am not saying this puppy is not nice, but it is just that, A PUPPY with alot of maturing and changes yet to come. I have seen MANY really nice puppies that just "fell apart" by the time they were adults. JUST MY OPINION. just as it was that judge's opinion on that day.  He judged what he saw.

Hutchins raises an interesting point.  How old is this R. Teddy Bear ?

This is something which has often been debated in the UK, with GSDs;
some judges (occasionally even visiting SV ones!) have given BOB to
a youngster in the same way.  Partly 'our' own fault, for failing to make
Surveys, Hip Scores, Working Qualifications an integral part of Conformation
Showing, as then it could not happen.

When you are showing, really it is a total insult to put a puppy up instead of the adults does not matter what class the dog(s) are in.  Often the puppies don't have much competition and go in a second or third time totally cooled down and ready to show again while the adults have been showing their hearts out sweating bullets trying to win and have to go right back again for BOB or whatever class.

Really this is a pretty puppy, love his dark face, not a long coat fan but that's OK too.  It is really hard to believe that there was not an adult to beat him, that is not saying much for the adults that were entered.  Again, it is kind of slap in the face to owners that do have nice dogs not saying the puppy isn't nice or totally politics, like the judge knew the handler, etc.  Nan

The number of entries was quite low, due to a variety of things.
