Since I got an amazing amount of help in my previous post, I thought I would try again. I have a friend who is interested in purchasing a 2 year old female GSD. She had her hips and elbows x-rayed 2 months ago, but not sent into the OFA. She received pictures of the x-rays, so I told her I would post them on here to see if anyone had an opinion. I realize OFA is the best route to take, but not the easiest thing to do as she and the dog are opposites sides of the country right now. Anyone have an opinion?? Also, any idea why a scissor would be in an x-ray?

Best guess on hips -fair, elbows I don't know well. I would submit the xrays to OFA before buying the dog.
That's a hemostat. The dog was sedated using gas, you can see the tube on the xray. The stat was used to clip off the balloon cuff located at the end of the tube. That cuff inflates and prevents gas leakage and stomach acids from migrating into the dog's throat.

HI Blitzen. Thanks for your advice. And thanks for the explanation!! I was confused, obviously. :)

I revised it a little bit to try to make it clearer. When the vet is ready to remove the tube, he opens the hemostat and the cuff deflates for easy removal.

Thanks Blitzen. My female didn't have a scissor show in her x-rays, so I had no idea. She will be passing on this dog, as the seller does not want to "invest anymore money" and send the films into OFA.

I am thinking fair also; will this bitch be bred? just curious. Not sure about the elbows so don't want to comment. Nan
