I've researched blood lines and am pretty sure I want a Blk/Red female out of the Jeck/Batu line...I have looked back 7 generations and have found lots of breeders with those lines...My intentions are for the dog to be my companion with the possibility of some advanced training but mostly looking for a good GSD to be my girl...I do read the message boards but am also new here, I have had GSDs in the past none of which were DDR imports but "back yard" bred with some good and bad experiences...I want this pup to be special and to have the lines of a top GSD...Any help any of you might offer will be considered...I am in central Fl and have heard there are a few good breeders in the area, actually heard that from an "upstate" breeder of long haired Sheperds in Fl... Feel free to drop me a line at mrarebe@netscape.net Thanks, Rob

Rob, I'm glad to see you are doing some homework. Did you know that long haired GSD's are not supposed to be bred? and that someone doing that would hardly be considered a good breeder? Keep doing your homework, take some more time, there is so much more to learn. Good luck!

My first shepherd was from a "backyard breeder" and I would give anything to find another dog like him. After 30 years, I have finally found another that comes close and nobody wanted him because he's a (gasp!!!) longhair. I'm not saying that titles and pedigrees are worthless, but people shouldn't get so hung up on them. The best friend you will ever have could be waiting for you right now at the local pound or german shepherd dog rescue.

I never knew that, thanks for the info...Wasn't interested in that anyway... There is so much to learn and after all these years I thought I knew a lot about GSDs, guess I was wrong...???I've looked at so many pedigrees in the last few weeks that I'm not sure what I'm looking at anymore...Actually I think I do... If there are any "pearls of wisdom" that you can share please by all means, share them with me so I might make a better choice... I am looking at breeders in the central FL area and spoke with 3 of them already, one was the breeder of long haired GSDs who gave me the name of a breeder close to where we are in FL; Vom Haus Winhiem who I spoke with and she seems to be reasonable with what she has to offer...???The other was Hunt Kennels who also looked good with dogs with what appear to be very nice pedigrees... Any help you might offer will be apprecited more than you or anyone knows... Are there "lines" out there that I should definatly stay away from...??? Thanks, Rob

Try looking at rescues.. I mean 90% of the dogs are purebred, some are still puppies like 14mons?????Please look at these websites if you are looking for just a "compainion". Very nice dogs, Some are even AKC reg. and some are from Schutzhund lines, just click on the dogs pic, and it will tell you about them..occasionally they have purebred pups that are like 4mons old. German Shepherd Rescue of Central Florida http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/FL568.html www.GSRFL.com South Brevard German Shepherd Rescue http://members.petfinder.org/~FL200/index.html Tampa Bay German Shepherd Rescue http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/tampabaygsdrescue.html HEIDI'S LEGACY: DOG RESCUE, INC.(A few pure bred GSD's) http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/FL307.html Please look at these dogs, they are very nice wonderful compainions

Christian (vom Kolbenguss) and Robert Lang (vom Arkanum) have a several litters with the lines you like in Rot-St. Leon, Germany (just outside Heidelberg). They are good people, honest as they come, sell their excellent dogs at fair prices, and will "be there" for you if you decide to title and show your dog in future, or just need advice now and then. Their dogs have the very best of care, housing and socialization from long before birth. Most of the females are 2nd, 3rd, 4th generations of their own and their father's breedings. Both brothers are accomplished 2nd generation trainers and helpers, title their own dogs, so they know first hand the temperament they are producing. They speak excellent English, too! (www.vomarkanum.de) You can call and have them send your puppy, or go pick it out in person. (Cheap fares & lodging at this time of year... & a lot more fun! :) I am proud to be able to refer you to the Langs for your puppy. Good luck! Shelley Strohl
