This thread is actually linked to this original thread... http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/forum.read?mnr=738403-need-advice-with-prince
I am taking Prince on Wednesday to have blood work done just to cover all my bases with regard to his behavior.. I just wanted a little more input from those here who have a better understanding then I do of blood tests to run specific to GSD's,,.. Since Prince will be having blood work drawn for thyroid and heart worm anyway, I just wanted to be certain there was not other tests that would be valuable to run as well...
Hex mentioned Tick titers?..and lyme
thanks..:)

If he were my dog I would definitely want to see as much as possible with the one blood draw; organ functions as well. Has he been tested clear of DM?? Just curious, can be done with blood draw but also done with cheek swab. You want to be sure he is functioning at his optimum so you cannot blame health problems on his attitude. And before he goes for further training a "well dog health check" should include parasite check etc. Good luck Nan

Nan,,,Degenerative Myopathy or Diabetes Mellitus ...Sorry I feel so dumb,,lol,,,I assume diabetes?...

Deanna, you might want to email Dodd with Prince's history and ask for her recommendations. She is probably going to want you to submit a sample to her and I can't tell you how much I recommend you do that. Get advice from the expert, it's free.

Sorry Ruger1, Degeneratie Myolophy (my keyboard is not working so it left out a letter in degeneratie) sorry, hopefully I will get a new one soon. Is there a reason why you mention diabetes? Any behaior that makes you think there might be an issue; well if so, it should show up on CBC. Dr. Dodds is extremely efficient and trustworthy; I would e-mail her and ask what her recommendations would be and what bloodwork would she recommend. She will get back to you quickly. Good luck Nan
