LOVE THY SHEPHERD

by LOVE THY SHEPHERD on 01 August 2013 - 20:08

I'm doing the happy dance today !  I took 2 of my GSD to the vet today.
Ghost vom Waldestraum and Hanna vom Dach Haus got their hip/elbow xrays
done for OFA.  Also got Hanna her microchip.  Ghost has an ear tattoo already. The
vet I use in St. Louis Mo. has been doing xrays for many years.  In fact Dr. Keller use
to be a vet there before he went and worked for OFA.
Anyway Ghost hips should OFA good to excellent, and elbows good.
Hanna should )FA good, and elbows good.  The vet was very impressed with the
xrays and both of my dogs temperaments.  They were both very good, calm and got
the xrays done fairly quick.  I didn't like seeing them put out though.

You're off to a good start, LTS.  The wait for the results seems endless, but hopefully OFA 's read will be the same as your vet's, and you'll have your first two specimens of OFA-certified breeding stock, and more to follow.  THIS is how it's done!  Thumbs Up

Thanks, Hexe.  I do have one question.  I called and talked to a woman in the USCA office yesterday. Was
talking about xrays I  have on an import.  The xrays were taken when she was bout 20 months old.  She said
the xrays can still be submitted.  I know they go thru the SV.  But can different organizations do them.  If I want
to join up with  USCA or  WDA  do they take the money and xrays and submit them ?  I'm trying to decide which
to join.

If I recall correctly, yes, you submit the films and the payment to USCA or WDA, and the organizations submit them to the SV.  Since you spoke with USCA and that's who told you the films are still acceptable, it would probably be your best bet to join there and have them do the submission. If you find USCA doesn't meet your needs in the course of the year's membership, you can always change over to WDA for next year's membership. Contact the USCA office and ask them walk you through joining the organization and submitting your bitch's films; I think you can do both all at the same time.

LTS, I posted on another thread where you asked if you could still use the x-rays. The WDA paperwork says they have to be films done within 6 months of submission. Maybe they are, just telling you.

I am gonna redo them for OFA   It's only gonna cost $16 more for OFA.   And won't have to wait as long,
or send in all my original documents.  The xrays looked very good so I'm not worried.  Yes I saw that about
the WDA and the 6 month time period.  It just seems like alot of money for the SV to evaluate xrays, versus
paying $40 to OFA
