Control your dog...pretty simple.

What is the point of the article and of posting it here? How sometimes sad the life is?
I have sold some dogs to Henrico LE agencies  and they, as far as I know , are decent people.  This is just sad situation on several levels.

When will some people learn it is their responsibility to control their own dogs.  As my Oma said, you work daily to become the person deserving of all that your dog gives to you freely.

I think they are two diferent thing. One, you have to control your dog of course, --however an accident always could occur in your live that you cant control. And the other thing is what is the roll of police, and wich are  the right of animals.

Mentayflor.  Yes accidents do happen. And consequence of accidents is often  that someone gets hurt or something gets destroyed. Many accidents  can be avoided . This one have been  avoidable   by the owner if they would control their dog.
The Officer has split second to make a decision.
If you would get attacked by a pit bull which has  murder on his mind. What would  you - mentayflor-  do? Have you ever got bitten by a pit or any dog for that matter?
How is it these days that some ones mistake and other is  blamed  - an innocent party. It is  so frequent  these days?
It is sad, that those  people caused that  their dog got shot in such a traumatic part of their life. But they are the ones and the only ones,   who are here to be blamed for the death of their dog. 100%.  On top of it, they are the ones who gives dog owners bad name, they are the ones who give pit bulls  bad name and they are the one who point their irresponsible finger on others. How do you think that officer feels. I'll tell you why . Like shxt.  What about him?  Oh! I know! He is a cop thus he must be blamed. Right?  As far as I am concerned, they are the one who should apologize to the officer,.... and  get fined.
Fat chance that is going to happen though.

And in a horrific turn of events, a Henrico police officer shot and killed the Ellerbe family pitbull, Tiger, as it charged toward the officer off its leash.

The pitbull ran from the backyard of the home toward at least one officer, who pulled his weapon and shot the dog in the home's front yard, according to Ellerbe's sister, Latoya.

photo shows no fence in the front yard....
aggressive dogs must be controlled and if they're not, they all too often suffer the consequences.

And if the dog had bitten the officer, with no current rabies, what then? Crappy situation all around, but the officer did what he needed to do to protect himself IMO, and could have easily been avoided by the dog being under control of its owners.

The people that walk and run to keep in shape here in our neighborhood carry either a large wooden stick or CCW. You cannot control owners from being idiots, but you can protect yourself, officer or civilian.

Hi Prager! why do you think the pit bull had murder in his mind?  Prejudice are the cause of mistraitment of humans and animals. I have several experiences of the same  type with my dog who has a big head and he is very dark, exactly as people fear because they believe that that kind of dogs are very dangerous. And some times people react irrationally running toward the front door to scape when they see the dog unleashed. With the risk he escapes and bites other dog outside and be classified as an agressive dog. But is it my guilty or the guilty of the dog? The pit bull had not bitten anyone yet. Police would have to have a protocol to act in that cases. And not let oneself go by fear or prejudice. It is just my humble opinion. Sorry my english is very bad.

I think the least thing they thought about was the dog being out in the yard.

I want to see all of you, how rational you are, when you just got the news that one of your loved ones got murdered. Horrible chain of events indeed.
