Hello Members,
My 7 month old GSD pup's tail is inclined towards left side (only the end) while walking. However, at rest the tail is straight. Is this normal in GSD'S for the tip of tail inclined towards left side while walking.

Gautam, it probably means the tail is a fraction 'too long', so the pup
is habitually twitching it off to the side to avoid it whisking the
ground all the time.  No more problem than that, although later on if
this dog was being bred I'd look for a mate who has a very correct
length of tail, all other things being ok.  If shown, it's unlikely to be a
hindrance unless the judge is fault-judging,  looking for things to fail
a dog on !  If you are still worried, can you post a picture ?

Trim off the hair on the tip of the tail so it doesn't brush the ground when he walks.

I don't know if this helps or not, but here's something-

"Tail bushy, with the last vertebra extended at least to the hock joint. It is set smoothly into the croup and low rather than high. At rest, the tail hangs in a slight curve like a saber. A slight hook- sometimes carried to one side-is faulty only to the extent that it mars general appearance. When the dog is excited or in motion, the curve is accentuated and the tail raised, but it should never be curled forward beyond a vertical line. Tails too short, or with clumpy ends due to ankylosis, are serious faults. A dog with a docked tail must be disqualified." trim the hair at the end of the tail almost to the bone. sometimes if the hair touches the ground, the puppy will develop muscles that bring the tail to the right or left just to keep it from dragging.

Are you able to feel a knot within the tail?

Susie, i don't think this is likely to be a tail with a 'kink'
'cos OP said it was straight when the dog is at rest.

If there is a problem within the fragile bones you not always are able to see this without motion / at rest, but you are able to feel it.
If there is no mechanical problem, I´m with you.
