My dog has been diagnosed with enviromental allergy in the past via blood test. She did have some food issues we solved a long time ago with pro/pre biotics enymes and elimination diet. Once figured out we went on a good food that worked with her digestive track. Not much to choose from only like 2 kibble. I also feed raw on top of that and just kiibble in the morning.
So for a dog that is allergic to stuff outside as well as dust there is 2 options cyclosporine or the shots
what do you guys prefer? atopica seems much more easy on the dog and faster results, also cheaper.
The foot washes, the sprays and the million other things just dont cut it and are not fair for a dog i think they should be rid of all the allergie and not have to go through constant washes and sprays that they hate.

Atopica used to be very expensive, so was the last line of treatment for inhalation allergies. If it's available at a reasonable price, I would do some research on long term use and if it looked safe, then I'd opt for it over the shots.

the one i got is the generic it starts with a S? 200 for the first month till we go down. He said i can try it watch the sucess and then see what i feel like doing.
The shots will be every other day. for the first month? Eventually worked down to 1 or 2 shots a month. Forever.
I have noticed slight improvment already. Probably helps that her digestive track is very good now. So her immune system is much better.
NEVer doing steriods again at least.
LAst treatment option people say is GLEE? or gloob? something like that? But my dog takes all pre/bro biotics plus enzzymes anyway so i do not know how that product would do much for us anyway.
Long term atopica seems safe also, but the thing is the plan is to lower the dosage till she might take a couple of pills a week? and to maintain her good health. If that will work with the help of her natural supplements also as welll as her omega 3s and other oils and vitamins. So following the normal rule it is safe long term but side effects can happen just like with any med pretty much. I take some really nasty meds myself with way more scary side efffects then this lol
It does not work like a steriod which is what i like. AND ONLY responds to dogs that have allergy to the enviroment.
I wonder if more serious cases will go for shots? I solved a lot of my dogs problems on our own so her case is not that bad she looks beautiful gets all kinds of supplements the best i could find in north america at least. HAs the most beautiful coat. Hardly itches. But she still does get those red spots that really do bug her sometiimes and nothing works on them much.

also have insurance company called trupanion? they have been very cheap so far they did not pay for my dogs tests even? and only paid a tiny bit of her meds. Suppose to be 90 percent coverage. Think i will ask them to re open the claim.

I just wish breeders would stop using dogs with allergies for breeding....that includes food allergies.

I am not sure but Marjorie I think it was mentioned using Apple Cider Vinegar on any itchy spots could also be used for foot soak and other areas and totally safe. Also I would put her on coconut oil daily and keep her on it as long as she tolerates it OK. The benefits are enormous along with her Omega's also. Good luck, pat yourself on the back for finding out what makes her most comfortable. Good job. Nan

blitzen this is a dog heavy linebred to UFO, Vaya vant leef, and also line bred to cordan an sat, so every dog in the ped is well known. WHich one brought in the allergy issues? Doesnt matter tho this is not a breeding dog so i dont care i just wanna keep making things better. I do not blame the breeders though. THe dam is a svv3 the other is a patrol dog now in texas for 5 or 6 or so years. Neither have this issue. I am just a bit unlucky.Oh well with a little effort my dog will live past 10 will she not?
NO soaks no nothing, this is not something new for us, there are only 2 options that i know of that i mentioned above, dog is already on omega 3 and any other supplement you can dream of, even olive oil leaf powder. YES IT HELPS BUT IT IS NOT A FIX IT HELPS AND THAT IS IT, IT WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE, IT HELPS THE DOG, THE STOOLS ARE GREAT!!! THE DOG IS WAY BETTER THAN MOST ALLERGY DOGS BECAUSE I DID MY RESEARCH A LONG TIME AGO BUT DAILY SOAKS BUG HER AND SPARYING ALL THE TIME IS JUST STUPID SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT SO THE VET TOLD ME THOSE OPTIONS. NOW HAS ANYONE INTHE WORLD DONE EITHER OR? OR WHAT? I know how to get rid of it but my dog should not go through that. SOme like to soak their dogs feet and bath them for the rest of their life because they are cheap if they think their dog is still not suffering they are wrong. A dog can never escape dust/mold. A dog loves the out doors you going to put boots on your dog? and keep it locked in a cage so it doesnt flair up? Unhappy and miserable its whole life? Problem must be FIXed.

btw i am not trying to be rude or anyting sorry if it comes out that way just a really tedius subject and you hear people say the same stuff over and over when it has nothing to do with you. It is all expensive and trupon better pay up. MOney should not be an issue since this all happened after i got pet insurance so i want to take the best path. I am going to have a talk with them soon.

Destiny, unless you know every owner of every dog from every litter for 2,3 generations, you have no way of knowing if any related dogs have allergies or not.
Maybe your dog is the first from her lines to have allergies. If that's so, then she serves as a warning that there is an issue that needs to be monitored. Allergies are not generally life threatening, but they can be very difficult to manage and are never cured. In my experience, most will develop more allergies as they age. Using Atopica may eliminate that from being a concern.
Glad that you are not using your dog for breeding; that's the right thing to do. And I agree, supplements, topicals, switching foods, washing feet, etc are only short term fixes and wastes of time.
