I am looking for a shutzhund club in Southern California. I am in Los Angeles and was wondering if there were any known clubs around in neighboring counties. I would very much appreciate the help towards the right direction. Thank you.

Here is the link to the list of Schutzhund clubs in southern California. This is from the UScA clubs website....

I have done a few searches, but has anyone either had experiences with or heard good things about them? I sort of want a recommendation.

I know people that go to the Danubius Schutzhund Club in Los Angeles and they like it and the dogs their do very well in trials and competitions. Nelli Rascko is very knowledgeable and runs that club. That's the best one I know of that is in and very near Los Angeles.

Jasmin Mata, it depends on what your goals in schutzhund are and whether the trainers feel their methods will work on your dog.  Some schutzhund trainers are one trick ponies and will dismiss dogs that they know won't pan out using their training style.  I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but I'm warning you that you may get a lot of "NO's" despite being willing to put in the time and spend money.  This also doesn't include the possibility that they may not like the pedigree of your dog or your training goals.  Some of them may not want to take you on due to your level of experience.  If you've done schutzhund before, you have a much better chance at finding a place a train than someone who has never done it before.  Get a list and start contacting them one-by-one and in some cases, multiple members of the club.

-Danubius is a WDA club, I've been told the club is full and Nelli has very little time for private training.  I am not saying that you will get the same message, but they really don't want every newbie that knocks on their door.

-Anacapa Working Dog Association is a USCA and DVG club,  at one time they did not want their members to belong to any AKC club at the same time.  Things may have changed, so I am not saying that you will get the same message.

-West Coast SchH Club is a USCA and DVG club, they also do AKC and French Ring.

-Southern California SchH Club is a small club in Long Beach, they are interested in getting new members.

-Orange County SchH Club is a USCA club and has some overlapping members with the Long Beach club and they appear to also be interested in getting new members.

Here is the USCA and DVG club directories for California:

Some of the clubs listed here are very small, don't have websites, never answer their phones, nor reply to emails.  So, its not clear if they are just not web-savy, too busy or are in "Country Club Mode" only wanting to keep membership open to close friends.  Be prepared to spend a LOT of time trying to contact these people and setting up in-person meetings with your dog.

No Danubius is a UScA club, for now :-))
West Coast is UScA and DVG. I doubt that they do AKC and Ring. Ted is a nice person and a good trainer.

@gsdhausphm I guess the WDA website is not correct.  I've also seen some trial entry forms from Danubius floating around the web with WDA on them.  I know things can change, but they are still listed on the WDA website:

I don't recall saying Ted from West Coast wasn't a nice guy, but he is advertising training for AKC and Ring.  The club and his business websites are all mashed into one, so unless someone knew him personally they wouldn't be able to tell the difference otherwise.

If your dog is not black sable, bi-color, black, you will not be wanted.  There is a dog in the Fresno area who is black and cream and one heck of a biter on the helper, but lots of nasty things were said to the owner or behind the owner's back about the dog being no good due to the color.  Dog is an import with a top pedigree. If you are a female, that will make it worse.  People have said how Long Beach is not nice to newbies and a guy told me that his times with Ted's classes were most unpleasant. He never had time for him and his dog is a medium color sable.  Same with the wda/usca club.  I do not belong to either national nor to a local club.  What I heard was when I was doing none schutzhund activities.  Sooo do not be surprised if you are mistreated.  VERY SAD indeed!!!!  Try AKC activities as tracking and obedience, even there people can be evil also.

Thank you all for your responses. I have sent an email to Danubius and have gotten a response. I told them that I am a junior handler and they seem to like my interest in the sport. I am looking forward to watching them train.

By the way, my dog is a 16 month old WLxSL. Her ped is http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=1831102-athena-von-adler-rock
