Can anyone tell me if this works and how much to give?
by Domenic on 05 January 2007 - 13:01
Yes,it does work BUT you need to get the stuff in the can and MAKE SURE it is NOT pumpkin filling and that it IS pumpkin. As far as how much i think a tablespoon is plenty. How old are these pups?Have you done a stool sample check to rule out parasites? What food are they on and how much cause sometimes overfeeding will give you a soft stool.Plain WHITE rice also works well for binding up the stool. It has been my experience that some of these so called higher end foods will cause that for some reason.Hope this helps

Janette,
The issue here is what is causing the loose stool. How old is the pup? What are you feeding it? When was it last wormed? When did the loose stool develop? What is the stool actually like? Simply giving the dog something like this does nothing to solve the real problem.
If you care to elaborate, we can probably help you. Has the vet seen this pup?

As an aside, be careful with the pumpkin. It's weird but a little will help bind but a lot with loosen the stool. So start small.

Thank you allaboutthedawgs...As to the other questions. A litter of 6, 5 1/2 weeks old. They have'nt been wormed yet, getting ready to do that. I feed Professional large breed chicken and rice puppy food.
I think my hubby ramped them up to quickly on the food.
Stool was mixed consistency, no form though. It's not mucousy , not coccidia like.Something that happens sometimes when you start them on kibble food. It's not a major issue, they are actting fine and their weight is good. I was just curious about the pumpkin.

Janette--

Hodie is attempting to be a helpful "gentleman"! The cause and "have your puppies seen a vet"? Cut to the chase! If I had a litter of puppies with diarrhia I would not be sluffing "hubby gave too much kibble" and looking for "helpful" advise on a discussion board. You MUST be aware puppies with serious diarrhea can be dehydrated and in "serious" condition and die in a matter of hours. If this thread stretches to a hundred posts there is only one with puppies to lose! Janette!! Strongly suggest avoid discussion and helpful hints--
THINK VETERINARIAN! Priority ONE! Diarrhia must be stopped and puppies must maintain hydration. Follow Hodies advise quickly!
