If you are in the area I recommend you find another vet. I took my female there Father's Day, she was in distress and laboring, they performed a c-section and retrieved 2 puppies, healthy heart beats, when I called to inquire. 11am next day received phone call from vet, both puppies dead and mom was spayed! Asked why, she said uterus was "stretched and scarred" she couldn't medically leave it, no reason for puppies not living, they just died?
So if you are around here, I would recommend another vet.

Why was she left at the vet overnight? And you didn't ring them first thing in the morning?
I would have been Banging at their door.

Normal procedure here is for the owner to remain at the clinic and to take the bitch and puppies home ASAP after surgery.

Too many questions here.

Father's Day was Sunday. She was admitted to vet at 6 pm, I did call 3x while she was there. They were told not to spay her unless iy was life threatening, ie pyometra
