So I've noticed that a lot of breeders and sellers lie about a dog's hip status. I know that you can look them up with OFA if OFA was used, but what about SV? Is there a way to look up a dog's hip status with SV?

You can go to their site and search also, but be prepared for it to be in German. Here's a link.

And take note, the German SV ZW system at the above link is only updated quarterly, next update is the end of this month. So if you don't see the dog in there right now, check back the beginning of July, remember this is only the HD ZW system, meaning you can't check to see if elbows were also done. You can also email the SV directly to their AKC department and inquire whether or not a dog has a hip or elbow rating recorded in their system. The email for that is akc@schaeferhunde.de You are right unfortunately, there are way too many that lie about the hip and elbow status of their dogs, you are very smart to double check with the associations. Some also lie about titles, that can also be verified through the SV via email if the dog was titled under an SV judge.
You can also search this system, although not as complete as the SV system is of course with regard to the number of dogs in it, but this does list the actual ratings if they have them. http://www.schaeferhunden.eu/winsis_x/winsissearch.php?tp=1

When using OFA you can choose to have it out there or not. So if the dog has a OFA number it may not always be out there if the owner didn't choose to advertise it. Only proof would be the letter received from OFA.

ALL dogs with OFA normal hips automatically go into the database. Dogs with abnormal hips are not listed unless the owner gives specific permission to do so on the application they submit with the xray.

you are correct on that Blitzen...my fault. I miss understood the fine print on the application. And wow that opens my eyes to several dogs who's owners said they had scored with OFA.
