I have a 3 month old puppy who is currently monorchid.  At this point is there any chance that this will remedy itself?  If not, what is the recommendation?  I know it wouldn't be ethical to breed him, but when is the right time to have him neutered (to prevent the retained testicle from becoming cancerous)?

On another note, is this something a breeder typically would disclose, or is it just something most breeders don't notice/look for at 8 weeks?

If your not in a rush wait to neuter him until he's a year. Most of the time by 6 months it's either made and appearance of it's never going to show. I have seen older dogs that were neutered at shelters come in with lumps that are cancer and when removed it was the retained testie. So if it doesn't show up by a year send in the Dr. to go find it and take them out. Apparently this is a genetic trait from what read of it. And dogs showing this trait are better removed from the gene pool.
Good luck.

I would ask if you have a contract and if what you paid was for a dog with possible breeding down the road. IMO I think breeders know when pups leave if there is a maybe and should advise buyers of this. I had a biorchid and suspected it before he was 8 weeks old. I kept him for some time then neutered him. I believe its genetic.

You could wait though till he is older than a year. I don't think it will make much difference. I would definitely neuter him though if it doesn't come down.
