It's getting hot and I am looking for a reflective tarp to help keep the temperature down in my SUV, which is black.  I've seen these in use at shows in the summer months and was wondering what folks are using that will allow air flow through a vehicle with the doors and tailgate open and will help with shading while hopefully not scratching the vehicle's exterior.

Thanks!

I don't use them, I find if I don't park so the sun is coming right in the windshield and I leave the side door facing the sun closed, but open the back hatch and other side door, it works pretty well.  i have a minivan with tinted windows, which I find helps a lot.  Otherwise I'd think just buying some clamps to put on a roof rack and then stake the other end out with some bright guy lines so you don't trip on them to keep away from the vehicle, should allow air flow thru there.

I use the silver sun reflecting tarps all the time they are available in various sizes.  They keep the car very cool and do allow air to flow through. I bought mine at www.cleanrun.com.  I compete in agility and trial all year round so keeping my dogs cool is a must.  I find these work very well.

P.S. I also use Ryobi battery operated fans in my van to keep air moving.

Leerburg has sunshades that are reflective and allow air to pass through, I like the idea of erecting a pop up canopy and covering the vehicle to keep sun from reaching or a combination of the two.

Petedge has the best prices I've seen for these.

Keith, what you are looking for is Aluminet,
http://www.shadeclothstore.com/depts/aluminetshadecloth.html

I got mine last year from farmtek.com, Aluminet Reflective Shade Cloth, 70% shade, 13 feet wide and 15 feet long, for $80, no grommets or anything, because I didn't want my car scratched and it has worked great. They have something different now http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;;pg111964_111977.html , you might want to call and verify that it is the same as Aluminet. Also, since your car is black, you might consider going to 80% shade.

Thanks, everyone!  I've been looking at those, Bob; they look real nice...heck, yours might have been the ones I saw at the 2010 AWDF championship.
