Dr. Dodds has done a lot for both human and animal health by exposing the hypocrisy of vaccine safety and efficacy. Thanks to her and her years of dedicated work.
Unfortunately the government has insulated the vaccine makers from major liability arising from vaccine reactions and overdose. Since their liability is low in both humans and very low in animals there is little economic incentive for the manufacturers to develop safer or more efficacious vaccines. The one dose fits all approach that vaccines in animals takes for everything from a 5 pound to 150 pound dog has never been either efficacious or safe in any other biological control system so why would it work any better for vaccines. The answer is vaccines are neither safe or effective in some individuals be they human or animal.

Dr. Dodds is now serving on the GSDCA's Health Committee. IMO that's a good thing for the breed.

Indeed .. Dr. Dodds is an inspiration .. she has taken on the Pharma and the vaccine industry and has held her own against them. I am sure that the vaccine makers and the industrial veterinarian organizations have tried to destroy her and take her licensure on many occasions but she has survived at great cost in money and self no doubt. It takes a brave person to speak the truth to the veterinarians and vaccine makers who profit mightily from the overuse and misuse of vaccines as they have the money to buy political friends, buy power and buy the media.

I would love if you summarize for the less educated on vaccines and the less capable of understanding academic English what this doctor debates. What is bad about vaccines? what is wrong in the today's practice in regards to vaccinating our dogs? Is there a specific protocol you suggest that is safer for the dog? Thanks in advance

Link to scientific paper on over vaccination
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1748-5827.2010.00978.x/full
A good place to start is to read this paper which shows that over vaccination can destroy kidneys and cause the dog's own immune system to kill him or her.
The general answer from those who profit from vaccines is that vaccines are both safe and effective. The government and the public health system encourages vaccination because it makes control of many diseases easier to manage from a public health concern and is a major part of the public health industry's reason to exist. Tetanus, polio and smallpox were the first major diseases controlled by vaccines and were a huge boost to the vaccine industry and to the pocketbooks of doctors. However while the use of vaccines is beneficial to the entire society and population it is not either safe or effective on an individual level. Many benefit but some are damaged or die from vaccination and over vaccination. Dr. Dodds has been a leader in addressing the "real costs" of vaccine usage in small animals which is seen as many diseases and abnormal immune system functions caused by the use of either one single vaccination or the cumulative effect of many vaccinations. When the myth of universal vaccine safety and efficacy is finally exposed as a lie the scientific community can get on with the business of developing safer vaccines and identifying those individual in the population either human or animal that should not be vaccinated due to health risks.

Ibrahim, this is a good article that should help get you catch up on Dodd's vaccination protocol.

There is little doubt that application of modern vaccine technology has permitted us to protect companion animals effectively against serious infectious diseases. Today, we can question conventional vaccine regimens and adopt effective and safe alternatives primarily because the risk of disease has been significantly reduced by the widespread use of vaccination programs, which convey underlying population or herd immunity.
For many veterinary practitioners canine vaccination programs have been “practice management tools” rather than medical procedures. Thus, it is not surprising that attempts to change the vaccines and vaccination programs based on scientific information have created significant controversy. A “more is better” philosophy still prevails with regard to pet vaccines.
Annual vaccination has been and remains the single most important reason why most pet owners bring their pets for an annual or more often “wellness visit.” Another reason for the reluctance to change current vaccination programs is many practitioners really don’t understand the principles of vaccinal immunity. Clearly, the accumulated evidence indicates that vaccination protocols should no longer be considered as a “one size fits all” program.
Giving annual boosters when they are not necessary has the client paying for a service which is likely to be of little benefit to the pet’s existing level of protection against these infectious diseases. It also increases the risk of adverse reactions from the repeated exposure to foreign substances.
So, have veterinarians really embraced the national policies on vaccination guidelines from the American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and Academy of Feline Practitioners? Does the public trust veterinarians to be up-to-date on these issues or are they unsure? Do they believe veterinarians have a conflict of interest if they seek the income from annual booster vaccinations? Given current media attention to vaccination issues, the public is more aware and worried about vaccine safety.
Some veterinarians today still tell their clients there is no scientific evidence linking vaccinations with adverse effects and serious illness. This is ignorance, and confuses an impressionable client. On the other hand, vaccine zealots abound with hysteria and misinformation. None of these polarized views is helpful.
Further, veterinarians are still routinely vaccinating ill dogs and those with chronic diseases or prior adverse vaccine reactions. This is especially problematic for rabies boosters, as many colleagues believe they have no legal alternative, even though the product label states it's intended for healthy animals. For more information, see www.RabiesChallengeFund.org
Alternatives to Current Vaccine Practices
1) measuring serum antibody titers;
2) avoidance of unnecessary vaccines or over vaccinating;
3) caution in vaccinating sick or febrile individuals; and
4) tailoring a specific minimal vaccination protocol for dogs of breeds or families known to be at increased risk for adverse reactions.
5) considerations include starting the vaccination series later, such as at nine or ten weeks of age when the immune system is better able to handle antigenic challenge;
6) alerting the caregiver to pay particular attention to the puppy’s behavior and overall health after the second or subsequent boosters; and
7) avoiding revaccination of individuals already experiencing a significant adverse event. Littermates of affected puppies should be closely monitored after receiving additional vaccines in a puppy series, as they too are at higher risk.

Personal experience with my own dogs .. one that died due to destroyed kidneys from vaccination while ill as a puppy. She lived until two years of age before dying a painful death after a painful life. Another dog I have was vaccinated at 4 months with rabies and within a week was very sick and went to the emergency vet. $600 worth of tests later they could find no cause for him being sick .. took him a month to recover completely. He was never sick a day before he got the rabies vaccination and is now 4 years old and never been sick a day since ( or at least didn't show it). The vets said his sickness although not explained by any other cause other than the rabies vaccination was coincidental .. so who are they working for .. themselves!! Vaccinations bring customers through the veterinarian's door that would not come otherwise.
