On the GSDBBR (German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry, a Health Registry for GSDS)
http://www.gsdbbr.org
health problems or causes of death as well as the history of healthy individual dogs are recorded, as well as frozen or chilled semen available from entered studs. If the dog has had litters, and is entered upon the database, litter history will also be recorded and available for viewing. Pedigrees of entered dogs are available for viewing, along with any comments the owner of the dog wishes to record/has recorded.

To research pedigrees and/or health problems:

---go to the summary analysis page
---scroll down and click on the health problems or causes of death listed in which you have an interest.
---A list of dogs will be brought up with their pedigrees.
---By clicking on a dogs name on the left side of the page, you can look at the pedigrees by clicking on the name of the dogs on the list.
--- Each pedigree will come up on a new page.

If

If you wish to search for frozen or chilled semen available from dogs entered upon the database
---go to the search page
--- enter frozen or chilled semen in the search box
--- check off yes to the question "Only return males and where frozen or chilled semen is available?"
---A list of dogs will be brought up.
---Click on the individual name to view their pedigrees.

Hip and elbow status are recorded, as well as certifications for any dogs that have been officially tested for various health problems.

Titles the dog have earned will also be listed on their individual pages.

The GSDBBR is open to all owners of Registered German Shepherd Dogs, worldwide, that have titled dogs or dogs within 5 generations of their dog's pedigree that are progeny/ littermates of these titled dogs. German Shepherd Dogs entered upon this database must comply with their country's breed standard, or be the progeny of a breeding of 2 German Shepherd Dogs, both of which comply with the breed standard.* This registry will house information pertaining to German Shepherd Dogs, both alive and deceased. You may only post information about a dog you own!

This Registry has been created in an attempt to gather comprehensive health information which will enable breeders to make more informed breeding choices and to avoid doubling up on health issues.

We thank all who will participate in this Registry for caring enough to want to take a proactive role in bettering the health of the breed. Together, we CAN make a difference!

Bump  for Missie T because I am missing her terribly today... I tried to post on the old link but it said the post was too old.. I guess I must be mourning her loss too long...

Just a reminder .... Please help us find a solution to the health problems in the breed by entering your dog on the German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry. The health of the breed is in the crapper and we need to find out which combinations of lines are producing which problems. We also need to know which combo of lines are NOT producing problems! A healthy GSD info is just as valuable an entry as one with health problems! Please enter your dogs on the German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry

Thank you

marjorie, your sorrow doesn't come with a time limit on it...just make sure that you indulge in every drop of joy each day with Casey James contains, and aren't allowing your grieving for Missy T to keep you from it.  Missy T, who is now healthy and sound as she waits for you, gets no benefit from you being sad, while Casey James gets his world rocked every time you smile at him.  So vow to smile more, for yourself and Casey James!

I am trying. I guess the go round with Missie T just totally traumatized me. I can hardly even look at anything GSD anymore. Casey James has been my rock....Without him,  I would be so lost, I would never find my way, again...

I understand, marjorie, I truly do...I'm just concerned for you, and would hate it if Missy T's legacy was just unbearable sadness for you.  Broken Heart  She, and Joss, and, of course, Jack Flash, they are all still with you, they are an organic part of your composition now.  Remind yourself of this when the missing of her weighs too heavily on you...

The "Grieving Process" is an important part of moving on...I just concentrate on the Positive and the Good Times we had together while our best friends are still with us...To concentrate on the Negative isn't allowing us to move on...
I just lost my Jack Russell at 10 years of age...He went thru cancer of the mouth and had a very difficult time...I won't allow myself to concentrate on the bad times...I always want to remember him in the good times and the bond we had together...
It never gets easier when we lose a close friend...You NEVER forget them...You just move on and place their memory in a special place in my life...I will have one hell of a party when I cross over the rainbow bridge too...

RIP "Ruffee" my dear friend...

I guess part of the reason I cant get past this is because of my feelings about the OFA DM DNA Test. I feel it is robbing our breed of research which could help THEM. Its not that I dont love ALL dogs. I just feel our breed was thrown under the bus... Missie T actually got up and WALKED, once she was down already for a month with the administration Dr C's experimental drug she tried. I will never foget the sight of her getting up and walking across the kitchen and taking a drink of water!!! OMG! Because research funding was non existant, with  all the research money  going towards the OFA DM DNA test ( and other places that do the same test) I can only help but wonder what progress could have been made, if the research money wasnt pissed away for other breeds, lumping our breed with them, when it is just dead wrong and not the same disease.  I guess I will be like Mr Bo-Jangles- after 20 years I will still be grieving, at this rate..I feel our breed has been short changed, and as much as I know about DM, I find that hard to live with...I can only begin to imagine what Dr C could have done with $100,000 of research money...I could never, ever, live through DM again. I would send myself to the bridge, first... Of course, Casey James and I have become attached at the hip.  I got him the Go-Dog-Go toy, because I wasnt allowed to do anything after the double cataract surgery. I had  put it off because of Missie T's illness and got to the point where I was legally blind, but no way was I going to not be able to care for Missie T because I couldnt lift anything heavy after surgery. The dr didnt want me throwing balls, after the surgery, so the Go Dog Go was perfect. Its so funny to watch Casey James anticipating when the ball will be shot out of the bucket.. Thank God for him, as he does bring smiles to my heart...

The strangest thing happened. I met a gal in my area in 1997, right after I started my DM Support group, when Jack Flash was dx with DM. I helped her through her battle with DM. Her dog eventually lost its battle with DM, as they all do. She lives near me and she had planted a bleeding heart plant when her dog died. We have kept in touch on and off. . I got a call from her on the anniversary of Missie T's passing. She told me the bleeding heart she had planted for her dog had a new bleeding heart plant growing right next to it which she had NOT planted. She found it in her garden on the anniversary of Missie T's death and she wanted me to have the plant. She felt Missie T was sending a message for me....She waited till it got a little bigger and stronger, and she brought it here last  week and we planted it. It is thriving..... Perfect pink little hearts dangling from the leaves of the plant...
