Are yo saying it's a benefit to have a dog with only one common ancestor in 5 generations? Just curious.

by vom mawhsiv on 03 January 2007 - 18:01

I am not saying that its going to be a benifit to have a dog like that. When we do follow and promote linebreeding so much dont you think its very surprising to have such a beaytiful dog that has not been linebred. i am really curious to know how its going to effect his producing. lets wait and see.

Breeding is always an absolute strenuous job for a RESPONSIBLE breeder. Is Breeding an art, knack, skill or an accident! At present to avoid in/line-breeding within 5 generations will be a difficult task for the breeders. At least in my country-India. I think selective out cross breeding is best suited for countries like India where there is no use of strict selection techniques for eliminating HD, dentition faults, and a few other problems like haemophilia and other immunological disorders the breed will continue to have all the traditional inbred-GSD disorders and anatomical vulgarity. When we increase the chances of getting a dog that has the same obvious dominant or homozygous desirable qualities, we are also increasing the concentration of so far hidden recessives and bad traits, unknowingly. These sleeping undesirable recessives hidden in the lines will create problems, which will be very difficult to eliminate. When we do line –breeding are with greats like Lasso Nuenberg or Zamb wienerau are we taking care of the immune system deficiencies found in the former’s blood line and high levels of HD in the latter? Rather than using a tool to improve the breeding ,so many breeders are using it as a technical jargon to impress their potential clients. At times,it is an excuse/justification being made for a convenient mating done with a nearby (accessable/available) dog.

How do you plan an outcross breeding?Would you consider phenotype similarities to establish certain traits?Pls share your knowledge.

Vegas is a very good young dog. I suggest breeding to females with correct rear angulation as he is rather extreme. Most of his offspring seem to share this deep rear angulation. Best Wishes, Jonah

i do agree a lot to wildstrobe. offcourse in a country like india breeding based on types which complement has a lot of importance. even if you line breed to a dog and if the breeding parents dosent have any of the qualities of the dog linebred to i dont think the offsprinfs would posess any of the qualities of the dog linebred to. if that was not the case then breeding would have been very easy and we would have had lots of urans, quandos, yaskos, connies and many others.
