69rs, your best bet would be to take your dog to an SV style show. I've seen dogs that I would peg long stock (not long, but long STOCK) place very high, so obviously I was either wrong in my assumptions or there is a very fine line between plush and long stock. The picture of your dog doesnt make it easy to see everything you would need to see in order to judge if she is stock, long stock or a coat. Your other post with the same picture provided, had alot of people guessing plush coat, so there you have it, its in the eyes of the beholder. Enjoy your dog and if you really want to know, find yourself an SV show or an SV judge to have a look at your girl and tell you once and for all. She's a great looking dog either way.

No fine line between plush and long stock! These are very different coat types. Plush is the regular coat of a show line (not working line), long stock is richer, a little longer than plush an more wavy. Hairs on ears are longer too. Long coat is longer then long stock and parts on the back of the dog! Your dog is def. long stock coat!

sorry peg not really understanding the difference between long hair or coat, and long stock coat

Coat Characteristics The correct coat for the German Shepherd is a stock coat (outer and under coat). The top coat should be as tight as possible, straight, coarse, and clinging closely to the undercoat. The head, including the inside of the ears, the front of the legs, the paws, and toes have short hair. Neck hair is longer and thicker. On the rear side of the legs, hair length increases downward to the pastern and hock. The rear of the thighs is covered show moderate "pants". Long stock coat (long, soft loosely fitting outer coat with undercoat, flags on ears and legs, bushy pants and bushy tail with flag on underside); Long coat (long, soft outer coat without undercoat). This coat type frequently is parted along the center line of the back, has flags on ears, legs, and tail. http://germanshepherddog.com/regulations/breed_standard.htm

Looking at the photograph of this young dog, I do not see the long, fluffy hair behind the ears that is typical of a true longcoat. I do, however, see a lot of hair on the back, and what appears to be some parting that typically indicates a longcoat. It is very hard to determine what this dog truely is, and time will tell. On the preliminary I would say that he is definitely a long stock coat. But, as has been said earlier, only a conformation judge should make the final call. Bob-O

so is ther a possiblity they he may lose this long stock coat once he shed's and is a long stock coat allowed in shows

I think your dog is a long stock and is going to stay that way. As of this moment long and long stock is not shown or bred under SV rules. The term "plush" usually is only referred to show lines here in the US. In Europe they are all called stock coat which you see in the links below!
