Do you still receive a stud fee if an "outside mating" occurs?(Actually they have had about 7 outside ties but never locked all the way. Person doesn't want to pay stud fee until he knows if she's pregnant. Any comments on this?

Yikes. Get a Contract BEFOREHAND, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS!!!! Trust me, I have had to learn the hard way. Even with "friends" or your mom, dad, whoever. ALWAYS have a very detailed (signed and notariazed by all parties) contract!!! In Germany, you pay the stud fee before the dog is bred. If the dog is not pregnant, you can choose to have another breeding for free, or half of the stud fee returned to you. In the US, you're kind of stuck with whatever you agreed upon. You can utilize emails/IM's you have saved of any and all conversations regarding the matter if there are problems. If you don't have a Contract, I would HIGHLY suggest getting one made up for next time. Good luck!

I do have a contract that we were all going to sign when they first lock up and that is when the stud fee was going to be paid. Since they have only had outside ties he wants to wait until he finds out if she's pregnant to pay. I have learned my lesson, Yes, always have contract first!!!!!!!!!

you should receive a stud fee before breeding occurs .In your case since it has already happened I would still expect payment regardless of the 'outside" mating. The person owes you the money. If no litter occurs you can re-breed when she's old enough ,gratis . Good luck,

We all learn this way,by mistakes. I hope you don't lose your friendship along the way. Sign the contract before the male shows up to the female next time. Nobody waits for a confirmed pregnancy to pay a stud fee.not to my knowledge. That is not reasonable for your friend to request that.

Get your fee now. Dont wait to see if shes preg/ Be sure to put in the contract he is responsible for keeping female safe from other male dogs for 25 days to be sure. Upon your inspection you will sign the application of reg to akc. U have to do this properly or u will be sorry...Why did u do this without finding out the proper way? U can kiss friendship and family when it comes to money and dogs!!!!!! What fee are u charging this person?

by zmeli on 03 January 2007 - 04:01

Yes we feel foolish now, guy will not cooperate. Says we will get our money if she's pregnant. What do I charge, Not enough!

Hopefully she not preg and u can tell him to go stick his head in a sack. SOmeone that acts like that I wouldnt give the time of day. Hes taking advantage of u. And did u get a Brucellosis test first. Never breed anyone to ur male without one and now u have to get one also. If she has vd ur in deep poopoo! Get the drift......

we made a lot of mistakes, my husbands father just passed away a few days ago and haven't even been in the "dog business" for almost 3 years so I guess I wasn't thinking when I agreed to this breeding thing.

I guess, once again, we expected someone to do the right thing.
