He bragged a lot about his dogs but honestly I could not ever find many happy customers. Was just curious did anyone like what he produced? I just keep hearing bad story after another. You would think with all the money and access to good stock he would have been able to have a good solid breeding going on?  I wonder what he did wrong that produced such crap?

If you have a Leerburg dog and don't like it tell why.  If you don't have one of their dogs and you are just going to take pot shots at Ed by running down his dogs then take a hike.  As far as I know Leerburg hasn't produced any GSD puppies in several years but they still produce or buy?? some Mals for Mondio Ring.  Ed Frawley may be the PT Barnum of the dog world as he is a relentless self promoter but he has ALWAYS been honest and reliable in his business dealings with me.

I have only known 2 Leerburg dogs (whose kennel name was Leerburg, not talking about dogs bred on Leerburg dogs). I will admit I was not blown away. One was ok, one was the oddest GSD I have ever encountered.

I do not have his dogs, I have not met any, I was just curious. I buy his products and dvds which I really like. But from reading a few responses he himself does not seem to have much confidence in his own pups that he had  bred in the past the way many good world known breeders do.  I have a couple of friends who have had personal experiences with him and his breedings. If you do research you will find it is very common his working dogs are just not really working dogs aside from the ones he imports. Even the ones on this forum. Look around you some of the chatty breeders are producing very impressive nice dogs that make your jaw drop and envy them. But edd still with all his power, lifetime experience, fame resources could never get to that level. It just didn't make sense.  Maybe he was too busy with fame?  He is def a smart man thats or sure.

Like I said I never saw a puppy for sale on his site in the last ten years and I have never seen one of his dogs.  I don't think you will find any customers of his present business model complaining that he does not put out a good product and back it up.  I think he figured out that talking about dogs was more profitable than raising them which it would almost have to be.

A local SAR handler has one, and I was quite surprised she was happy with the dog and it had no serious health issues.  Funny thing is, her Belgian Terv is the SAR dog, not the GSD.

The GSD would be pretty old presumably as he has not sold any dogs (on his web site at least) for a long time.  Like I said Ed is a relentless self promoter which annoys many but I lived in Mississippi for several years so I am used to that (folks down there are pretty chatty about themselves too!).

I owned one several years ago, Ista vom Leerburg. and I must say I was not impressed with her, she had little to no drive, and was a very ugly pale sable, looked like a coyote to me. Had very light pale pigment. Seemed not too bright either.  But this was of course only one dog.  Everyone produces some not so great dogs at times.

A coyote .. pretty funny .. he damns her with faint praise LOL .. sounds like a first hand owner review to me and the dog was not very good.  It takes a pretty bad dog for their owner to call them a coyote so I am thinking she was pretty bad.  Sounds like Ed made a good business decision getting out of GSD breeding and into the DVD racket.

bubba, I saw somewhere that he bred 300 plus litters, and used famous names/lines, kind of   answers the question of the other topic about breeding quality dogs , he did what a lot of breeders are still doing

but where there is demand, someone got to supplie it, I saw some of his videos and they are usefull for the greater public, so he is helping out and making money doing it, most who will take shots at him probably achieved less
