Hi Guys,

I have a 9 week old pup that has everything I was looking for except a hard firm bite....

He is very confident
outgoing,
extreme food drive

He seems to bite firmly when on tug is on the canines but when he is on a full bite he is quite soft.  He is happy to run with it on a full bite but if I pull it on the side it comes out. I havent been able to go to my club as he needs one more vaccination.

has anyone had or seen a pup like mine who then develop a really hard bite? I am aware he is young and there can be a lot of work ahead of us but still wanted to ask as my last pup had an awesome bite since 8 weeks old, could literally pick up the rug and he would not let go.

Thanks

The bite comes from genetics and is only ours to mess up IMO. With proper training you can improve the bite but will be working with it for the life of the dog. SO What if it's bites not as firm can still get a 90 score in protection an 80 if its not a red dog in DVG and a 110 if its GSDC

He's nine weeks old!! Not gonna be a vice grip, he's a baby.

Seems to me the difference between the two pups is about
'possession' rather than the ability to bite hard and hang on.
It could all change after the current pup cuts his adult teeth.
Like the  others say, its a bit early to be worrying about it.

Try tying the tug to a line and give him some distance before you pull on it, some pups soften their grip when up close because social drive comes to the fore.

Don't let him have the lure or praise until he gives you the right bite.

@bubbabooboo
Yeah some pups at that age have very full strong bites... I had one and he would never let go no matter what, now he is a Police dog and I have been told that he still doesnt let go....

@Everone else
Good points, and hope you guys are right.... as I really like everything else about the pup...

So have you guys seen it first hand of a pup like mine turning in to having a super bite as they get old?

Thanks
